COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

I must be missing something or we just had a really tragic bottle because it smelled like cheap whiskey with some weird muddy character and didn’t taste any better. Would love to try it again because Firestone Walker is one of my favorites.

Bottle 2014 picked up this week. Pour has a dark brown color with a thick coating of tan head that retained well. Aroma has chocolate, rich brown malts, mild barrels, bourbon, and some oats. Mouth feel is medium with good carbonation. Flavor brings it all together nicely, bourbon sweetness, barrel wood, rich malts, oats, and chocolate. Very good!

Bottle: 2014 vintage, pours dark black with a thin tan head, very boozy aroma, taste is much more mellow - some chocolate, malty, light bourbon flavor, warming finish and fairly full bodied,

2014 edition. Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 11.21.14. A: Vanilla, licorice, brandy, chocolate, and red grape. A: 2 finger head that quickly recedes to a ring. Midnight black body with red at the bottom of the glass. T: Vanilla and licorice dominate. Chocolate, woodiness, lingering coconut, and nuts are subtle. P: Almost crisp. It’s thin and too bubbly for a BBA stout. O: This is a good, complex and balanced BBA stout, but it’s too subtle for my taste. A higher ABV and fewer bubbles would have been nice too. It’s also not as smooth as other BBA oatmeal stouts.

Strong coconut with hints of bourbon. Pours thick brown/black with a thin creamy head. Awesome flavor! Coconut and caramel, tastes like those Samoa Girl Scout cookies, and is super creamy.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Sweet brown sugar, chicolate, crime brűlée, or sweet aromas. Bourbon and oak are light compared to sweet flavors.

2014 bottle pours black with light cream hued head, silky looking and leaves a nice lacing trail. Nose has mild bourbon, heavy booze presence. Taste is sweet, oats, light vanilla, bourbon. Body is super light, creamy, thinner than I like but I get it. Mild booze burn on finish.

Bottle from Craft. Nice bold notes of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, wood and coconut. It was smooth, full bodied. It warmed the body as it went down. The finish was roast and wood. I loved it.

Draft pour at Toronado Seattle. Black pour, chocolate and oatmeal aroma, deep coffee taste with a little chocolate.
