Deep black pour with a couple fingers of creamy tan head. Lots of roasted malt aroma, vanilla, and slight bourbon. Flavor is very smooth with chocolate, more roasted malt, and some hop bitterness. Very nice!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a tap into a pint glass at KnB Wine Cellarís in San Diego, Calif. Color was coffee black. Probably heavy on the head, but I missed the pour. Good looking beer, though.
First smell was coffee. Also some caramel, nuts, Nyquill and cough drops.
First taste was coffee, followed by a strong alcohol bite and then a chocolate finisher. Dark, but so smooth.
Mild carbonation. Some licorice and almost a liquor taste, like Baileyís Irish Cream. The Nyquill/cough syrup kept coming in and was off-putting.
I really like this beer, but it was much better out of the bottle. I usually am a draft guy, but the taste specifically was better out of the bottle.

Sample on Day 2 of the Aces & Ales Strong Beer Festival on 08/13/2011. Cola-colored pour with a medium light beige head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Pours black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of malt and coffee, along with a touch of chocolate. Medium, creamy body with flavors of mocha, mild hops and malt. The finish is sweet milk chocolate. Above average overall.

Bottle. Beige head tops a brownish-black body. Aroma is light coffee, chocolate, a good amount of oats, and some molasses as it warms. Taste is medium sweet and bitter. Flavor is roasted malt, wood, more coffee and chocolate, and drying bitterness. Some bourbon notes in the finish. Medium body and carbonation is bit fizzy for my tastes. Nice stuff.

12 oz Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a creamy light tan head. Aroma of roasty malts, dark chocolate, a bit of the sweet breadiness along with touches of piney hops. Flavor is super roasty, dark cocoa bitterness that lends towards the light sweet chocolate character. The hops are lightly spicy and earthy in the finish. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Nice stout, nothing amazing, but solid nonetheless.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It poured nearly black with a tan head that left minimal lacing. It smelled of roasty chocolate and coffee malts the taste follows the nose, itís extremely smooth and drinkable and pretty full flavored for such a low ABV.

Got a 12oz bottle in a trade with StumpyJoeJr (thanks, Ryan!). Poured into a tulip glass.
A: Black through and through, a few spots of ruby red on the bottom. Great head - dark tan, creamy/frothy, good rentention and lacing.
S: Sweet-smelling with notes of candy chocolate, sugary coffee and cream. Not very roasty or toasty, though.
T: Very very close to Samuel Smthís Oatmeal Stout. Gentle sweetness in the beginning and middle. Ending and aftertaste are slightly roasted malts with bakerís chocolate and light coffee flavor and bitterness. Aftertaste is pleasant, but doesnít last very long, which is fine in a more sessionable-type stout.
M: Noticeably soft, medium-thickness. Slightly higher in carbonation than Iíd expect - this beer had me burping.
D: The first thing I noticed before the taste was just how velvety smooth it was from start to finish. This beer just glides across the tongue. The 5.5% ABV makes it highly drinkable for beer drinkers of all experience levels.
Overall, a very impressive stout because itís so tasty and smooth. Not quite as robust or energetic as I prefer in bigger, more imperial-like stouts, but an impressive beer nevertheless.

12 oz bottle into a snifter. Pitch black pour with nice tan head. Pretty good retention. Very pretty beer. Nose is big chocolate, coffee, and some grains. Taste is great with a wonderful balance of chocolate, coffee, toffee, and a little bit of oat. Mouthfeel was fabulous. Very creamy and smooth with the right amount of carbo. Very well balanced brew.

3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
First Firestone Walker beer. 12oz. bottle poured into a snifter.
Ar: Not a big aroma at all. Smells like the inside of a Quaker oatmeal container. VERY light chocolate scent.
App: Very dark, but not totally black. Light comes through around edges and bottom of glass. Kind of a dark redish tint where light comes through. Fluffy one finger head. Slightly off white with only small tight bubbles. Head dies down to thin layer but doesnít disappear. Fairly good lacing.
T: Nice roasted flavor. Light coffee. Mild sweet chocolate. Nice oaty finish. Very mild hop bitterness.
P: Medium bodied. Mild carbonation. Smooth but not Velvety.
O: Been hearing great things about Firestone Walker. Had a sip of their Double Jack and was impressed. Got a few of their brews, including the Parabola. Not super impressed with this one. Itís decent but thereís definitely many better.

Pours dark brown with a nice tan head with good retention. Aroma is roasted grain, leather, brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. Roasty burnt malt flavor, some light bittering on the finish. Definitely salty, chocolate, licorice, and toasted grain flavors. Medium bodied with a lasting flavor. Tasted from the bottle @ 57F.
