On tap at the brewery in Paso Robles. Nice pitch black
appearance. Nice roasty, malted , chocolate aroma. Taste is very
pleasing with hints of chocolate, oatmeal and coffee. Finish is short and dry.
Better than average stout .

Bottle from Armin. Thanks! Pour is a fairly dark brown, with a very light brown head that quickly fades to very little lacing. Aroma is light chocolate, lots of light malt, nothing overpowering. Taste is huge oatmeal up front, with some dry coco powder on the back. Fairly dry, if somewhat chalky, finish. Nice beer.

12oz bottle -
Whenever I see Firestone Walker, my tastebuds go into overdrive because I know that the beer is likely to be a winner. However, this seems to be the exception to that thought. Not a bad beer per se, but one that seems lackluster and rather pedestrian by their standards.
The aroma carries some really light coffee notes with little else in terms of complexity. Flavor has that coffee-like bitterness with a woody tannin finish. Mouthfeel is full and round with a velvety feel which was the highlight of the beer. Appearance was a bit disappointing as the head really didn’t deliver regarding to sustaining a long lasting head. After my 3rd bottle, it just didn’t hold up well. Overall, a decent brew but compared to the other winners in FW’s line-up a let-down.

Pours a dark ruby red with a tan head. The aroma had the sent of chard malt. The taste was of watered down malt. The body was to thin for a stout and it had a bitter aftertaste.Overall a bad stout.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Surprisingly damn good. For the cheap price of $7 a six pack, I was a bit skeptical at first. Initial aroma of toasty malta & chocolate. The color is dark like black coffee and molasses. This beer is very heavy, but sweet and delightful. A great winter beer, really dark and smooth!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown pour without much of a head. Aroma was light roast, hints of vanilla, cocoa and coffee. Flavors were lightly roasted malt, nice milk chocolate creaminess and a coffee like bitterness. Mouthfeel was nice and light, soft carbonation, creamy. Nicely executed mild stout. Thanks to Santa for the bottle!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on 12/12/11 from a 12oz bottle sent to me as an extra by a very generous trader, 2010 vintage. I have been waiting to pop this bottle in hopes that I would some day find my old rating for the Velvet Merkin, and I just found it in a stack of old papers. Pours a nearly black dark brown with a thick, smooth tan head that slowly recedes to spotty lace. The nose is full of dark chocolate, ground coffee, and very light hints of vanilla and maple bourbon, with a bit of a creamy milk chocolate note as well. The flavor is full of dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee, with vanilla, maple, and caramel, and the lactic milk chocolate coming through stronger than on the nose. The body is full and creamy with lively, stinging carbonation, and a long, milk chocolate, coffee, and light vanilla finish.

A nice Oatmeal Stout. Not the best because the Oatmeal flavor is not very distinct. Still leagues above most other beers though.
