A decadent Oatmeal Stout brimming with cocoa and espresso aromas. This beer features a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish. The addition of U.S. grown fuggles hops contributes the perfect amount of bitterness to this exceptionally balanced beer.

This pours a headless tan color. Itís appearance is not itís strongest suit and thatís about the worst thing I can say about this otherwise excellent brew. The nose is the best part, vibrant and roasty w/ some earthy underpinnings. The flavor is not quite so exceptional but this tastes good enough w/ a little bit of bitterness in the finish. This is nice and dry but the texture is still somewhat creamy, which I think is nice for the style though I think this could deal w/ just a touch more body. Overall, this is a very nice beer and one that seems to empty from the glass all to easily.

Bottle. Poured a brownish black with almost no head. Aroma was coffee and coco. Rich coco, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Well done.

Okay... Now Iím taking a step back and attempting to have a beer again, but this time one just as classy as Iíd like but with less alcohol and less hops. I have some digestive rebooting to do, so Iím starting from square one. Merlin looks black and dense, with a light brown head. Carbonation appears to rise slowly, letting on its thick nature. The nose is very welcoming, with soft, roasted malts and a touch of cocoa making for more of a dry nose than a sweet one. In the mouth itís soft, silky, and smooth like velvet. The oats really come through in the flavor, teaming up with the heavily roasted notes nicely to offer a very satisfying mouth feel and palate for such a low alcohol concoction. A slightly peppery burn accompanies the dry, roasted malts down the gullet, leaving things clean and tidy for the most part before you go for the next drink. Some cocoa shows up in the finish, dry and powdery. I have to say that for an oatmeal stout this is thinner than I had expected. But like almost everything Firestone Walker makes, itís just as incredible as youíd expect... Especially for such a low-profile ale. Hats off to this one, quite possibly my favorite oatmeal stout! Smooth and magical? Right on.

Poured on tap from Poppyís in Estes Park, CO. coffee, chocolate, on nose. Taste of coffee, milk chocolate and a bit of dark chocolate, round smooth mouthfeel, something I canít identify on finish (smoky wood - maybe mesquite?) Finish is dry.

Black with a small head that gave no lacing. Roasted coffee, cocoa, cream nose. Taste is roasted malts with very little bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice brew, not my favorite stout though.

Bottle. Itís damned cold here, though not as cold as ninety-five percent of the US, so...pours a dark, opaque brown-black with a high, creamy, solid cinnamon head. Light nose with baking cocoa, chocolate, and spices. On the tongue, itís a rich melange of chocolate, cafe au lait, cinnamon, and fudge. The palate is amazing -- perfectly rich and tongue-coating with a long, warm finish. Damned good.

Bottle, seasonal release. Inky black with small creamy beige head, roasted malt aroma, coffee beans and hints of chocolate in the taste, low carbonation, creamy body, long bitter finish. Very very good stout!

Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head and only bits of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and fresh coffee. Has a deep rich coffee flavor with dark chocolate and roasted malt. Has a light bitterness and a dry finish. Body not quite as full as I expected but still rich and craemy. Nicely balanced. Enjoyable beer that goes down easy.

Dark black pour, little bit of tan white head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste - medium roasted malt profile, coffee, nice bit of bitterness, all perfectly balanced. Excellent!
