3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle served in an English pint. Pours stout dark brown with a medium-short tan head and almost no lacing. Roasty aromas of tobacco, coffee, oatmeal, and mild smoke. Smooth delivery of a rich, mildly bitter-sweet flavor. Medium body, creamy slick texture, and a long, soft, roasty-bitter finish. I donít get any oak from the bourbon barrels so Iím thinking the ratio is minimal. In any case, this is a good brew.

12 oz bottle poured into a big tulip glass. Nice thick and pungent pour that has not over the top smokey oat sweet aroma. Its dark, oil dark. Taste is very balanced, great flavors of sweet molasses balanced with bark and oats. It is a good texture. Ironically, it seems like this would be a 8-10% abv beer, so there is some mind trip that the beer is lower at 5.5% than what seems to be texture/taste/tone wise.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Served from a 12 oz bottle from OTM. The appearance is very dark and opaque with a micro tan head. The aromas are really rich. Heavy roast malt, almost a stale cigarette or cheap cigar aroma, some creamy oatmeal aromas as well. The flavors are really rich for the low ABV. The entry is some extra dark chocolate that fades to a heavy roasted grain and mocha flavors. The richness of the flavors begins to dissipate a little through the beer. A lot more cigar flavors poke through. At the very end a really nice kick of bourbon appeared. Will have to see if the next bottle I open has that more of that. The mouth is medium bodied with a sticky after taste. Overall an above average stout. I might use a bottle or 2 for some recipes.

On cask as Velvet Merlin. From what Iíve heard this isnít different from the Merkin. Pours with a lasting off white head over a murky deep brown body. Aromas of wood, brown sugar, cola, molasses, chocolate, earth, fudge and vanilla. Flavors of brown sugar, coffee, chocolate, wood, toffee and molasses. Really smooth and creamy. Light bubbles.

On tap at Stone. Pours with a black body with no head and no real lace. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Taste is chocolate and floral with a light spiciness, light smokiness, and a light oak barrel character. Light bubbles and syrupy. Very enjoyable.

This brew pours a nice dark brown with a yellowy-white head. The mouthfeel is excellent: creamy on the tongue and nice chocolate and roasted nut flavors.

not my favorite style, but this one has a boat load of big rich roast/coffee flavor and a seriously smooth and creamy moutthfeel that still has nice carbonation. didnt know it was made with bourbon but after reading it it makes sense. the finish has a nice semi sweetness at the end after it warms. this example seems a little more bold than a lot of oatmeal stouts and thatís a good thing in my book. very well done

Bottle pours deep brown/black with a khaki head and leaves behind slight lacing. Aroma is sweet with roasted malt, milk chocolate, coffee, and a slight vanilla/marshmallow thing going on. Flavor shows the same with the oats making themselves known as well as the ever so slight hint of bourbon as it warms. Overall body is moderate to full, soft, and finishes with a nice roasted bitterness. Good stuff.

On tap @ Papago during Bells launch party. Pour is deep brown-black with a turbulent beige head. When I stuck my nose in the glass, the first thing that hit was heavily roasted coffee, followed by bourbon, licorice, coconut, and chocolate. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of oatmeal and wood. Overall body is moderate to full and finishes on a nice earthy hop note. Not a trace of alc to be found. Canít wait to crack my 13th anniv. now.
