A decadent Oatmeal Stout brimming with cocoa and espresso aromas. This beer features a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish. The addition of U.S. grown fuggles hops contributes the perfect amount of bitterness to this exceptionally balanced beer.

Pours an inky looking black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is dominant of coffee, some chocolate, and some smokiness. As opposed to the aroma, the chocolate really comes out in the taste. Earthy malts here, along with the smoke flavors. Coffee takes a backseat until the end. Aftertaste is smoky coffee, and is rather short. Light to medium in body, smooth when drinking, and short on carbonation. Not bad here, although I enjoy other efforts by Firestone Walker more.

Bottled on 09/09/11. 12 oz bottle into a DFH signature glass. A - Pitch black body with a small one finger light mocha cap. Tight and small bubbling with low retention. S - Sweet milk chocolate, roasty malts, and light coffee. Simple, but amazing. One of the better noses on a beer I’ve encountered. T - Doesn’t live up to the nose. Milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and a slightly bitter and dry finish. A bit thin and plain. O - Damn, this beer had an excellent nose. The flavors and body are just above average for me. I wish I could buy this though, its a nice and simple oatmeal stout that does everything right. It doesn’t stand out, but its a safe bet.

Appearance was clear root beer with creamy diminishing tannish 1 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet chocolate, soft coffee, oats, caramel, roasted malts. Taste are sweet chocolately, vanilla, oatmeal, roasty expresso malts, hints of herbal spicey hops. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, an average sweet oaty cocao creamy cleanish finish. A prime example of a oatmeal stout.

Bottle, thanks to markwise for the share. Near black pour with a thin tan head. Roasty dark malt nose with big notes of coffee and chocolate, lighter notes of vanilla and earthy hops. Full body with a creamy mouth feel and good carbonation. Flavor is quite balanced between earthy bitterness, roasted dark malt, sweet chocolate, and coffee. Finishes moderately sweet with lingering coffee.

bottle 3 weeks old. Pours with a nice soft lasting head. Aroma is really nice warm chocolate and roasty sweet malt. Flavor is very similar, extremely well balanced with a very even finish. Feel is very soft, fresh, lively, chewy, light smokey astringency. It touches on everything in just the right ratio. Love!

Bottle shared by mtjoseph. Deep, dark brown color with a small off white head. Very nice looking for a regular porter. Big roasted malt aroma, with plenty of chocolate present, and some sugary creaminess present as well. Taste has chocolate and a good amount of roasted malt present. Creamy mouthfeel. Just a really nice stout that I could drink a bunch of in the winter.
