COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A decadent Oatmeal Stout brimming with cocoa and espresso aromas. This beer features a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish. The addition of U.S. grown fuggles hops contributes the perfect amount of bitterness to this exceptionally balanced beer.

Typical light brown head, which collapses fairly quickly once in the glass. Black as sin body. Wonderful toasted oatmeal aroma. Body a little thicker than average. Nice smokey flavor which reminds me of Pacific Northwest Salmon being smoked over alder wood logs. Probably from the combo of dark chocolate and coffee. Will definitely have this again sometime.

12 oz bottle into a snifter. Pitch black pour with nice tan head. Pretty good retention. Very pretty beer. Nose is big chocolate, coffee, and some grains. Taste is great with a wonderful balance of chocolate, coffee, toffee, and a little bit of oat. Mouthfeel was fabulous. Very creamy and smooth with the right amount of carbo. Very well balanced brew.

Bottle. Charcoal black in appearance with an inch of milky cappuccino head. The aroma is mostly charred and smoky roasted malt with some espresso and molasses in there as well. The taste starts with bitter coffee and roasted malt flavors along with dark chocolate, cola and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is soft and creamy with medium carbonation and a dry, roasty finish. There’s a pleasant burnt smokiness to the overall flavor that gives it a nice bite.

Pours deep brown with a small tan head and lacing. It has a nice toasty aroma with some coffee and chocolate. The coffee is stronger in the flavor, with the chocolate and bourbon more apparent in the aftertaste. A smooth body and great finish too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2014 **** rated this one with some confusion about merkin back in 2011. This is solid sweet stout. Nothing special like the magical merkin. I heard a lot about this one - not sure why, wasn’t hard to find at all - had it at Trader Joe’s. Disappointingly looks nothing like the picture on the label. The aroma is pretty good. The flavor is surprising...while pretty middle of the road, it tastes a lot like just alcohol and burnt malt. Very hard to pick up on any barrel flavors. Hard to pick out the hops but they sit nicely with all the burnt malt.

Bottle pours black with one finger firm tan head. Aroma of roast with a little chocolate and licorice. Taste sweet malts, oatmeal, chocolate. Mild slightly bitter finish. Creamy palate. No alcohol noted.

Wow, very drinkable stout. The taste is fairly mild but not weak at all. There is a lot of flavor here without turning into an in-your-face stout.

Dark brown pour with creamy tan head. Nose is light hints of coco and coffee. Creamy but relatively light body. Coffee and dry chocolate. Semisweet malts. Mellow, slightly dry finish. Good drinking and not too heavy.

Pours an inky looking black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is dominant of coffee, some chocolate, and some smokiness. As opposed to the aroma, the chocolate really comes out in the taste. Earthy malts here, along with the smoke flavors. Coffee takes a backseat until the end. Aftertaste is smoky coffee, and is rather short. Light to medium in body, smooth when drinking, and short on carbonation. Not bad here, although I enjoy other efforts by Firestone Walker more.
