4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours pitch black with a medium tan head and just a little bit of head retention.
The aroma is slightly metallic but also has some vanilla and mocha notes.
The flavor is really the showstopper here as it just unleashes mocha, caramel and vanilla along with having a silky (or velvet) smooth mouthfeel. A great example of the style and a wonderful beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark as night, with roasted coffee and chocolate aromas. Thick and creamy, with a malt profile that leans towards the bitter edge of the mocha bean spectrum, with expressive espresso flavors dominating the rich body, with dark chocolate nuances creeping in through the wonderfully bitter finish. This is a beer that packs a lot of flavor for its sessionable abv, and you are all the happier for it. My only complaint is that the overwhelming bitter coffee notes cut the finish off a bit.

Great coffee stout, rich heavy body, carries well into the finish, smooth and creamy, almost like coffee cold brew, slightly alcohol tasty notes.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
From a 12 oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods Devon PA. No date. Drank from a mini snifter. Pours a semi clear dark brown. No head and no lacing. Very little aroma. What's there smells of Moxie.... And that's the way this review is going. Mouthfeel would be light for a porter, let alone an oatmeal stout. Pretty dry and watery too. Taste is of water, coffee, cola, dirt, styrofoam and something else I can't put my finger on but that doesn't belong in this beer. Wow was this poor. It was everything the description didn't say it'd be. PASS!

October 2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a dark brown/black with a small tan head and oily lacing. Aroma is brewed coffee, chocolate chip cookie dough, and slightly roasty and musty. Taste is roasted coffee with a little cocoa and some bitterness at the end. A rich, balanced taste that isn't complicated. A medium, smooth mouthfeel with a medium dry finish.

Dark black, no head. Chocolate aroma. Medium to full palate with slight hops and coffee. Middle is big coffee with nice full body and finishes with a slightly carbonated tongue. Doesnít have the oatmeal stout taste necessarily, and I donít quite knw why itís considered a winter beer..but itís damn good!

An oatmeal stout? Wow, this is the lightest one Iíve ever had. Itís a good beer, but not what Iím used to for this style. Nice chocolate and smoky aroma. Dark brown with a light reddish hue and a tan head. Creamy body and charred malt with a good sweetness, and then.... Itís gone. It just seems to disappear without much lingering taste or an aftertaste. Maybe thatís where Merlin comes in! Abracadabra, your oatmeal stout is gone! I would have guessed this was a porter rather than a stout, but overall a very nice dark ale.

Bottle. Opaque black body, decent head, fades to a skiff of foam, lace ok. Aroma roasted barley, hint of chocolate, and a bit of wet dog. Taste is roasted barley, some coffee, a bit of dark fruit, faint metal. Palate is thin, carbonation subdued. Finish is slight sweet.
