COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A decadent Oatmeal Stout brimming with cocoa and espresso aromas. This beer features a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish. The addition of U.S. grown fuggles hops contributes the perfect amount of bitterness to this exceptionally balanced beer.

Bottle from Armin. Thanks! Pour is a fairly dark brown, with a very light brown head that quickly fades to very little lacing. Aroma is light chocolate, lots of light malt, nothing overpowering. Taste is huge oatmeal up front, with some dry coco powder on the back. Fairly dry, if somewhat chalky, finish. Nice beer.

FROM NOTES: June 28, ’12 A: Black with ebony/brown highlights. Had a short creamy head with very nice lace. A bit thin for my tastes for an Oatmeal Stout. A: Smooth roastiness with mild chocolate flavors. T: Has a sweet dark chocolate flavor with some mild toffee flavors. Roasty and bready yet never really coming across as bitter. Sweet finish. P: Medium bodied. O: A nice Oatmeal Stout. While nothing earth shattering here, it’s hard not to be impressed with a beer showing this much flavor with such low alcohol. Pretty impressive really, Firestone Walker is just a ridiculously great brewery!

01.31.14 bottled. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a goblet on 07.30.14. A: Cocoa, caramel, and licorice. Sweet smelling. A: Thin tan head that recedes super quickly. Midnight black body with some red in the glass. T: Licorice and caramel dominate. Cocoa and raisin are subtle. P: Creamy. Bubbly on the tongue. It has a lot of carbonation. O: This is a very good oatmeal stout. It is very bubbly but I like that in this beer. It goes down super easy.

Very nice aromoa. Notes of cocoa and coffee. Fairly smooth flavor, with malts, roast malt, hints of coffee and cocoa melding together. Medium body, not too heavy. Easy sipping beer. Opens up a little as it warms, complexity of coffee and cocoa notes unfurls. Fairly clean finish. Very nice drink.

Bottle. Aroma of pecans, little hop, toasted malt, and raisins. Surprisingly light and well carbonated for a oatmeal stout. Solid beer. High drinkability.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into nonic glass. Appearance: pours a thin cream colored head which recedes quickly. Little or no lacing. Very dark reddish brown and opaque. Aroma: pleasant aroma of coffee, caramel, chocolate and earthy hops. Mouthfeel: medium to thick mouthfeel and creamy with dry and fairly bitter finish. Flavor: chocolate and coffee along with caramel dominate the flavor, earthy hops add balance, the oats contribute a creamy aspect. Overall: nicely crafted oatmeal stout. Well done.

12 oz bottle. Pours a black which looks cola brown at the edges when held up to the light. Two finger light brown head which dissipates pretty quickly and leaves a very small amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted coffee, light earthy hops, and light dark chocolate. A bit of vanilla and licorice comes out as it warms up. Initial taste is roasted coffee going into light dark chocolate with some hints of vanilla and licorice. The finish has a slight tea-like bitterness. Don’t really get any bourbon. Medium body. Low carbonation. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Pretty standard for an oatmeal stout. Pretty great beer, especially for the cos.

Pours dark with creamy mocha scent. Malts in the nose. Roasty malt taste but lighter than what I am used to. To be honest, I had this later in an evening of beer tasting after some heavier stouts and it feels like I should have started with this. A decent stout but there are better out there.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2012 Several subsequent tastings from bottles have lived up to expectation. Pours dark brown with modest compact beige head diminishing to plush halo. Chocolate and mild coffee aroma with enveloping cocoa and chocolate milk layered flavors. Smooth creamy mouthfeel with delicate hop counterpoint and slight firming dryness to finish. 11/14/10 4/4/4/2/13 Draft: Buttered popcorn aroma, Butter and milk chocolate flavors, with a watery texture and slick mouthfeel. No roast or bourbon notes as anticipated. There’s a tremendous disparity in what I expected and what I got in the glass (see Parabola rating), so I asked the establishment about how often they clean their lines (which of course sort of set the bartender toward defensive, but there’s got to be some explanation...) Good vibe at this bar, decent beer selection and great pint followed (Speakeasy Double Daddy) so go figure.
