3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle courtesy of a BA trade. Pours inky black with tan colored head that went away almost immediately. Good legs, okay lacing. Aroma is faint. I’m only getting deep malt with a touch of brown sugar. Taste is much different, still the heavy malt character, interesting oat flavor, faint hop earthiness, brown sugar/caramel. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin. Not nearly as syrupy as I was hoping for from a oatmeal centered stout. I’m surprised this beer becomes so damn tasty in the barrels. Merkin is considerably better. Maybe I shouldn’t have aged this one. Who knows?

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle in LA. Clear very dark brown, bubbly off white head doesn’t last. Roasted malt aroma. Flavour has roasted malt, some cocoa. Not sweet. Some roasted malt astringency and medium bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body. Really well balanced oatmeal stout. Nothing to fault here. Nice beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch dark appearance with a small beige head and little lacing. Earthy, smokey aroma of roasted malts and chicory. Flavor of bittersweet chocolate paired up with tobacco and roasted coffee beans. Some dark fruit emerges in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel and an average length finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Gotta love them stouts when the weather starts to get a bit cooler. Big aromas of roasty malt, coffee beans, oatmeal cookies and chocolate. Nice creamy tan head and opaque near black pour. Flavor is spot on with nice bitterness and a bit o sweetness. Good mouthfeel with nice oats smoothness and a medium plus body. Really good.
