3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 awaisanen (1312) - Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 24, 2010From a 12oz bottle. Dark chocolate colored body with a finger of thin bubbled, creamy tan head. Clean, toasty aroma of mild coffee and an earthy, rustic "oatiness". Very faint herbal hops. Notes of chocolate and raisin. The char character is restrained, allowing more of the subtle roast complexities to shine through. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a slick, chewy texture. This creates the impression of an aptly named, velvety texture to the mouthfeel, but is still pleasantly dry enough to maintain an enjoyable level of drinkability. The flavors bring out substantially more complexity than the aroma initially reveals. Flavors of light chocolate and raisin add a touch of sweetness up front on the palate, balanced by a toothy, toasted oat flavor. As the flavors develop, hints of vanilla and licorice begin to emerge. Very light hop flavor initially, but takes on an earthy character that melds nicely with the oat flavors. Pleasant flavors of licorice and dark chocolate linger in the finish. Impressively complex considering it’s modest size, but also crafted well enough to enjoy several glasses at a sitting.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DrinkEmUpJones (992) - Georgia, USA - MAY 22, 2013
Drinks a little flat for the style. It also poured with virtually no head. The bottle I am enjoying does show to be about 4 months old so maybe the 5.5 abv is starting to fade. Good but I don’t agree with the 98 score.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SlackerMads (528) - DENMARK - MAY 22, 2013

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (1480) - Michigan, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Got in a trade with swingracex. 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/21/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear almost opaque dark brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, oats, toast, brown bread, light coffee, floral, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt notes with oats and light hops. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, oats, roasted malt, toast, brown bread, light coffee, floral, and roasted earthiness. Slight earthy roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, oats, roasted malt, light coffee, toast, and light earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of roasted/bready malt flavors with oats and light hops; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish; moderately dry on the finish as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice oatmeal stout. All around nice flavor balance and robustness; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Flaske: Sortbrun let gennemsigtig øl med et offwhite skumhoved. Duften er brændt og klassisk amerikansk stout med vægt på en smule humle foruden den let brændte næse. Smagen sidder i skabet. I det hele taget en lækker øl.

Refrigerated 12 oz. bottle from Joe poured into a shaker. Pours black with small dark brown highlights with small beige head. Little lacing, medium/thin body, medium/low carbonation, and light oat aroma. Taste is roasty, some dark chocolate, herbal hops, some coffee, and ash finish. Complex taste, but not one of my favorites. Better as it warms.
