3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A nose of cocoa powder, metal and hop spiciness. Quite carbonated (a tad too much, for my taste) but a vigorous pour can help with that. Light chocolate, slight peanut, and moderate hop bitterness. Overall, this is a somewhat flat flavored and one dimensional "robust" porter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In short: A nourishing small porter. Tasty but a little too sweet to be sessionned.
How: Bottle 22oz, a few times, generally fresh.
The look: Mostly clear dark mahogany body topped by a persistent small tan head.
In long: Nose is roasted cereals with a dessert-ish sweetness and almost nothing in the way of esters and fruity notes. Body is medium in size and well carbonated. Taste doesn’t surprise nor disappoint. Roasted cereals, black liquorice, dark caramel, cacao beans. Low in the hops department. A little too much sweetness sensation for such a low abv beer but nothing that really prevents drinkability. Overall, a nice but unexceptional almost-sessionnable porter/stout. Yet another rating for me, and I’m very good at writing superb beer ratings, I write beer ratings I can be very proud of until I get close to the end and then I ruin everything for no apparent reason double-penetration.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
"smooth beer! compared to the 3 crappy to pretty good porters we had over the last couple days, this one was great. Very nice hop aroma, but the nose was lacking the roasted malt/chocolate. They were present in the flavor a little more, with a light hop balance, which was nice. Again, really smooth. Better than any other Firestone beer I’ve had (in 2008)."

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Transfer from BA review on 12-13-13-
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance - The beer pours a nice deep brown color with a hug light brown colored head. The head fades relatively quickly at first, but leaves a rather persistent small one finger head of foam. This small bit of foam does eventually fade however leaving a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is nice of sweet and roasty smells. The roasted malt aromas are a blend of chocolate and toasted malt while the sweeter smells are of caramel and some toffee. Along with these aromas are some other smells of a yeasty nature as well as a bit of an oaky and woody smell which when combined with the rest produce a rather nice smelling concoction.
Taste – The taste begins with roasted brown bread and sweeter chocolate flavors mixed with some caramel sweetness. Other sweeter flavors of toffee come to the tongue shortly after the initial tastes, giving a more buttery and smooth flavor to the brew. More toward the middle of the flavor profile some vanilla and more cocoa come to the tongue along with the emergence of a light level of earthy hop. The hop remains rather light, bittering the brew only ever so slightly. Toward the end, some coffee flavors as well as a nice oaky taste comes to the tongue adding a little bit more bitterness. Even with the coffee and hop, the taste is still very smooth and one is left with a smooth, rather sweet and lightly bittered and roasty flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is a bit on the lower side. The lower carbonation is rather nice for the darker flavors, as well as the bit of oak taste more toward the end of the taste, nicely allowing those flavors to be sensed. A bit thicker of a body would likely be slightly better for the style, but at only 5.8% abv the creaminess of the brew is quite respectable.
Overall – A pretty nice porter overall with some nice oak/woody tastes and a good balancing bitter flavor to the sweet and roasted malt backbone. For a porter of only 5.8 % the beers flavor profile was quite robust and made this brew a pleasant drinker.
