3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown with reddish highlights that produced a fading tan head and good lace. The aroma hints of cashews, piney hops, grapefruit and currents, bittersweet chocolate, and dusty yeast esters. (Reminds me a bit of Alpha Klaus, just not quite as hoppy) The initial taste is bitter, fruity, and lactic. Undertones of caramel, oatmeal and nuts. The finish displays some smoky, coffee and subdued woody notes. The mouthfeel is fizzy and thin as is most porters. This beer was surprisingly better than I expected, just not a barrel aged behemoth, more akin to the standard porters.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours inky brown with a tannish head and with wafting aromas of oatcakes, cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, molasses, dark rum and rich caramels. Just the most alluring smell and a very attractive beer that left good lace down the side of the glass. Silky and slightly oily texture. Some residual sweetness and a lengthy finish. Beautiful beer, just completely sexy.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown on black with a good solid quilt of tan cream foam. Good looker. I donít know if this beer is aged in oak, but it sure smells like oak, tannins and some toasted malts with a bit of soil and some licorice and catty hop tones. The flavor carries leather and smoke with bittersweet chocolate and some dry toasted malts. A nice milky character as well. The nose doesnít add up with the flavor here for me. Like the flavor, didnít care for the nose. Medium bodied with reserved carb. Decent beer, but not nearly a top five porter for me.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A beer profiled for the masses. Tasty and enjoyable, though, not as robust and rich as the "Reserve" label implied. For the price point, a well crafted brew that is far from disappointing.
