Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain, bread, malt syrup), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a note of mushroom. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Clunky and funky, especially in the mouth (very watery and rather unpleasant in the aftertaste).

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice small head. Starts mild but not washy, fine malty-spicy, modest wheaty. Some grasy hints. Finish almost a bit thin, but still okay. Quite drinkable.

On tap at the keller. Malty aroma but hoppy finish. Not the best but pretty much up there really drying hoppy finish. Pretty impressive poised. Solid Lagerbier with a very hoppy biting finish.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 Draught at Brauerei Fischer in Greuth, Nov 2012: Rich golden yellow. Broken cap of white foam. Lemon verbena and candied fennel seed aromas compete with husky pils malt (wet hay) and a hint of popcorn. Soft and natural on the tongue. Bright lemony hop zing is curbed by strongly husky malt which brings to mind scorched hay. Pleasant scratch of herbality in the center matches the sassiness of candied fennel Spalt character. Closes limply haylike and prevalently husky with doughy yeast and some soapiness in the flawed finish. I regret that I just wasn’t captivated by this as much as my dear friend and drinking companion 3fourths. The audacious hop treatment is a welcome change of pace from most Franconian lagers, as it is certainly one of the hoppiest I have encountered. But digging deeply reveals a huskiness and other subtle misfirings which ultimately make this somewhat unenjoyable to my senses.
