Bottle looks very simple. Beer in the glass dark brown, nice head. Very smokey aroma. Starts mild-malty, not as smokey as exspected, modest dry. Some fruity hints of plum. Finish mild, well balanced but still too less smokey.

Bottle @ Bierzwerg.de. Pours clear amber with a creamy head and lacings. Very malty nose and flavor. Smooth and mildly smoked. Bread and caramel. Very pleasant!

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!
Im Glas steht ein rotbraun leuchtendes Bier mit guter, feiner Krone. Für ein Rauchbier hats ne recht dunkle Farbe. Der Geruch ist röstmalzig, angenehm schinkig, alles in allem recht zurückhaltend. Der Antrunk erfolgt dann doch schinkiger und rauchiger als erwartet, jedoch dezenter als gewisse Kumpanen aus Bamberg. Zur Mitte wird das Ganze etwas herber, aber der Schinken hat hier die Oberhand. Eine angenehm frische Hopfennote tut sich im Verlaufe auf. Gutes, süffiges und recht mildes Rauchbier.

A copper brown beer with a weak and blond head. Aroma is mild, malty, only mild smokyness, roastiness, some plastic. Taste is malty, quite dry smokyness, nice sweetness in the background, also some unpleasant plastic. Medium bodied, nice and slippery to drink. Not very succesfull beer, plastic bothers me, especially when beer is cold, but there are three months to BBE, thus this should be OK. Slightly smoky beer, "personal", easy Rauchbier.

(bottle) Brown color, beige and almost creamy head. Caramel sweetness. Malty and moderately smokey. Even the hops can be noticed from the start. Woody aroma as well. Very well-balanced and rounded. Light bitter, medium sweet taste. Soft carbonation. Very enjoyable, a good smoked beer for beginners.

Bouteille de 500 ml avec bouchon de céramique achetée chez Landbier Paradise (Nürnberg, Allemagne). Arôme: Légère odeur de caramel et de fumée. Apparence: La couleur est brune foncée. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Léger goût de caramel et de fumée. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. Légère présence de fumée en arrière goût. (Rating #3861)

Aroma has caramel, toffee and vanilla with hints of smoke. Flavour has vanilla and hints of smoke. Interesting and nice but rather far from rauch.

My Bottom Line :
Beechwood smoke and friendly caramel are tightly woven into herbal hop bitterness in this quenching Rauchbier.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam covers the clear copper.
-All flavors are one from aroma to finish.
-Prickly carbonation increases drinkability (this swing-top bottle did its job properly, which was not the case with the flaccid bottle of Lagerbier from them I had had a few days earlier).
-This is in the Spezial mold, not Schlenkerla’s, to give you an idea of its flavor display and intensity.

Bottle.

It’s beautiful mahogany-red with a creamy and lasting head. The aroma is pure smoke, mostly campfire, but I also find light butter and caramel. The flavour is moderately sweet with notes of campfire and other smoke, light butter, licorice and the finish is dry. I like the clean smoke flavour without smoked meat. The best when cold, it lost a bit of charm as it grew warmer.
