4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. (This is the Alltech Kentucky Bourbon Barrel aged version.). Pours dark cloudy reddish brown with thin head. Aroma is sweet malts with some hops and bourbon. Taste is big rich sweet malts with pine hops and thin aged whiskey on the finish. As the name suggests, there’s a bunch going on here. Leather, oak, molasses are in the mix. Nice and complex. Alcohol is evident but not overwhelming - I wouldn’t be surprised if this was in the 12% range after barrel aging. I typically don’t like barleywines, but the regular version of this is good and this is outstanding.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep amber brown with no head. Aroma of malt, bitter hops and booze. Taste is bitter yet malty, pine and citrus with a lot of caramel. Medium mouthfeel, more going on than your average American barleywine

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is hoppy and a little funky and very characteristic of the style.
Taste is a little sour and definitely bitter from the hops, though it tastes like the hops are a little old. Not a great barley wine.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a hazy dark brown with thin head and minor lacing. Aroma is strong caramel malts, bourbon, and spice. Taste is massive malts, vinous and thick with bourbon, with the dry earthy hops coming in quite bitter in the end. Not bad.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours cloudy and brown with a minimal light tan head. Aroma is grainy with baked brown sugar reminiscent of banana nut bread. Taste is interesting for an American style barley wine. I would have thought that the hops would have ruled this one, but they seem almost equally matched with the malts - really complimentary. That is followed by some reluctant alcohol and a steady long bitter finish. This one would be interesting in a vertical tasting. Have to get some more.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 ounce bottle from Total Wine. Brewed February 2013. The aroma is musty and vinous. Malts dominate. The beer smells sweet. Moderately hazy amber body with a medium creamy head. Herbal hop flavors to begin with, before caramel and toffee malts follow. Finishes quite bitter with an earthy and herbal hop flavoring. A big, bold beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Hazy dark brown pour, thin and sticky head with an aroma of tons of spicey caramel. Flavor is also incredibly malty, caramelly, with very dry woody hops throughout, copper and slightly warming. Very nice for 10%.
