The Mighty Fish Brewers first produced 10≤ Barley Wine Ale to celebrate Fish Brewing Companyís tenth anniversary. The ale was so good and the response to it so overwhelmingly positive that it has become the crown jewel of our new RELEASES line. Ten different hops - Horizon, Chinook, Columbus, Willamette, Tradition, Northern Brewer, Santiam, Tettmanger, Cascade and Golding, in the order of their use - give Ten Squared a unique hop character which has to be tasted to be believed. Even with 100 IBUs, this brew sports a strong malt backbone. Two-row Pale, Caramel 40, Caramel 75, Special B and Aromatic malts impart remarkable balance for such a hop monster. This is smooth ale with surprising similarities to ten year old malt whiskey. Produced for the Holidays 10≤ Highly-Hopped Barley Wine Ale is usually available into late spring.

The HEAVY brew is so smooth--so luscious on the tongue--that you donít realize just how HEAVY it is until you get a ways into the glass (and the temp comes up a bit). Wonderful spicy, loamy, citrusy hop blend. Erotic mouthfeel. Viscous going down. HEAVY once down. Advice: split a bottle and you wonít be disappointed. (22oz bottle)

Draft 10 oz pour (fitting) at Fish Woodinville. Iíve spent a long time seeing these beers around and assuming I would "get to them" eventually. First visit, finally, the the new-ish Woodinville pub, and Iím very pleased to see some fun and rare beers featured. This was one I heard about but never had the pleasure of running into. Also just heard this won quite a prestigious award in its class, so the expectations are set high. One of those old school breweries from my home state, I wish I spent more time giving their stuff a try. Fish brewing is old enough to order a fish brew. Of a Reel ale, or whatever you want to call it today. This beer really has an old school feel. A classic barleywine. An amber copper pour with a cream beige smooth foam head. A soft vanilla, caramel malt aroma. Flavor is rich, but not too sweet caramel malt, with an appropriate amount of booze heat for a well made double digit barleywine. Smooth, and the flavor, as well as a decent dose of bitterness lingers forever. Something about this batleywine is leaving a memorable taste. A beer that when you think of the brewery, you think of this one beer. Not too intense, but you feel it after a small sample. A beer with a description that threatens to be longer than my rambling ass rating. A rating that will unfortunately come to an end, just like the enjoyment session of this beer.

Tap at Imazato. Dark brown with orange tints, hazy, lace. Hoppy nose of pine, chocolate, some caramel. Rich, big, strong and hoppy flavor. Quite drinkable for a barley wine because of the big hops. Nice.

Fish tale squared on tap at Craft Cafe Imazato. A nice looking mahogany red with a beige head. A bready Graham cracker and fruity citrus aroma while the taste is sharply malty with big sharp green hops plus citrus. A classic US style Barleywine.

2011 version on draft at BPP. Maybe this ws good at one time but itís just bitter tea leaves now, super astringent, a complete pain to even sip. Big head and lots of lacing though. Truly, a horrible stripped, industrial and astringent barleywine.

Bottle. The color is a hazy amber with white head. The aroma is big on toffee and burnt caramel. The taste is big, good flavor, then burns out nicely with oak. A very solid barleywine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours orange copper color, low foam retention. Nose is piney, roasted caramel and hints of dried fruits. Bitter taste, hoppy citrusy flavor, resinous medium body mouthfill. Lingering explosion of hops, potent alcohol feel yet not overwhelmingly. Taste of IIIPA rather than a Barley wine.

Rating #1233 - 19.08.2014 - Bottle at Pourhouse. Nut brown pour, bubbly head, not much lacing. Aroma is a cascadey punch, alcohol, pastry dough Taste is an alcoholic blast, lots of hoppy bitterness tempered with a ton of citrusy, malty sweetness on the palate. Just a big bold beer for flavour-lovers. Awesome.

Pretty nice classic barley wine. Dried fruit and hops, sweet but also quite bitter. As with some other Fish beers, I wish it wasnít so prickly. Takes away from an otherwise decadent brew.

22oz bottle 2/27/15 (Courtesy of TerryR)--40į in snifter-Pours a dark orange/amberish. with a small head. Aroma of dried fruits, candy sugar, malt, toffee, caramel, and hops. Taste of malt, hops, brown sugar, and sweetness. This full bodied brew is well balanced and maybe the bottle I have mellowed a bit but I thought it kicked butt.

Rich malty, earthy aroma. Initial taste is all hops. The 10 variety of hops overwhlems all flavor. Very hoppy, unbalanced finish. Other than the ABV there is absolutely nothing to suggest this is a barleywine ... more like a Double IPA.
