Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Bottle. Another really good beer from Fish. Sweet caramel and malts with a nice hoppy bite. Warming alcohol comes in as the temp rises making this super smooth. Nice roasty flavors.

Appearance: Nice red color. Head ring. Aroma: Raisin, coffee?? I wish it had more aroma. Palate: Fizzy. Creamy. Flavor: Milk/Dark chocolate. Raspberry. Roasted dark malt. light coffee flavor.

Rerate on 12/14/2006. This is a May 2006 vintage 12 oz bottle. The beer pours to a deep ruby body with a huge airy tan meringue head. The aroma is interesting. Heavy nutty raisin dusty grains and coffee/light chocolate. The flavor is nice with lots of fresh crisp grains and blended chocolate and coffee. I sort of see what I was getting at with raspberries, but I’d say it’s more like a blended earthy red wine. So easily drinkable. Hard to change my rating at all. The palate is dusty almost with nice bitterness and dry salivating feel.

Clear dark red body, a very pretty beer. Chocolate milk, grain husks (oatmealy) in the aroma. Oatmeal stout malt sweetness with caramel in the flavor. Nice creamy mouthfeel with an appropriate amount of fizziness. Liked the malt in this guy.

Bottle. Deep brown color. Sparse tan head with minimal lacing. Rich floavor. Oak notes are in aroma and flavor. Chocolate and coffee. I didn’t pick up a lot of the wine. Clean tasting with a nice hop finish.

hickory brown appearance, with a mostly sugary aroma (some spices and roasted notes)...easy on the palate; a nice and refreshing mix of cherry notes, malts, faint hops, sugars and spices

Acquired in a trade from Bill (batkins) a while back. Deep clear red-brown body, thin/medium cream/tan head. Aroma of soy, raisin, prune, caramel, and alcohol. Nice toasty body with toffee, earthy bitterness, and a long oak tannin finish. Not much in the way of heavy caramel, prune, or raisins that tend to typify the style. In that sense, this is somewhat Dunkel-like with its emphasis on toast and woody notes. Nice, tight carbonation. I’d drink this one again.
