COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Pours a rich rudy brown with light head. Medium malts dominant the aromatic profile and the palate. Beer is smooth with a fine malty hop accented finish.

650ml bottle pours a reddish brown color with a 2 finger light beige head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and citrus with some floral notes and some woody notes as well. Taste is chocolately malty and dark fruity sweetness with some light roasted bitterness and mild hop bitterness in the finish. Flavors are very well balanced and carbonation is adequate with a medium body. One of my favorite doppelbocks, right up there with Celebrator.

Pours reddish brown with a frothy tan head. Nose is caramel malt, chocolate, dark fruits (raisin, plum, dates), slight cherry, and hints of slight hops. The taste is very similar but seems muddled. Great mouthfeel, slightly watery though. Great doppelbock.

Great colour, deep reddish brown. Thick beige head. Fantastic aroma, deep and malty. Caramel, Chocolate, Dark fruit. Smells great. Fantastic flavour. This is a great beer. Smooth and malty. Very complex. much of the aroma comes through in the palate. It is a little hot, the alcohol does come through. All in all I think this is a fantastic beer. A great dopplebock

Quite a nice, sweet, dark aroma, very thick. A bit of head on pour, lacing sticks around. Fairly dark. Thick, sweet, creamy, a bit of smokiness in there. Thick, complex and quite tasty. Its much thicker and flavourful that I thought it would be. I would benefit from bottle conditioning.

Bottle. Huge thanks to hobbersr for the share! Pours reddish-brown, with a very thin tan head, not persistent, poor lacing. Nose is rich, malty, and roasty, with the notes from the Merlot barrel really coming through; tight berries and acid play on top of the roast. Flavor is acid and berries, perfectly balanced by the roast and malt sweetness. This beer is drier than most Doppelbocks, but deliciously so! This has to be an older bottle, maybe 2 or 3 years old.

Bottle pours very very dark brown/black with very little light passing through. A smell head of foam slowly fades away to a rich malty sweet nose of chocolate, biscuit, and wood. Medium rich body. Flavors follow the nose and and layer of complexity gives way to a nice dry finish. I read the description and really didn’t get any merlot notes in the nose or taste. The malty overtones must have been too much for it. Its a solid beer.

22 oz bottle purchased at Malt and Vine in Redmond, Washington. Pour is deep dark brown with a one inch tan head. Thick lacing left behind on the glass. Aroma of grassy tobacco and sweet dark fruit and roastiness. The wood is present, though subdued. Nice integrated nose. Taste is the roasty dark fruit sweetness right away, turning to the grassy hay tobacco in the finish. Palate is light medium, highish carb - making this quite easy drinking (perhaps too easy - shocked to see this is 10% per the label!). Alcohol mildly present after it had warmed. Well made and tasty, nice stuff.

22 oz bottle. Pours a ruby brown with a creamy long lasting beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, bread and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is rich and sweet with lots of caramel and chocolate flavors, there is a very light bitterness, no alcohol taste. Full body with a mild carbonation and a thick creamy mouth feel. This is one of the best American Doppelbock’s I’ve had, excellent.

22oz 񢉘) from ditmeir - thanks, Eric! Much darker pour than a lot of doppelbocks, an opaque dark brown with a fairly thick beige head. Lots of chocolate malts in the aroma add another dimension of distinctiveness, though this is balanced by dry, smoky notes and some still lively hops. Mouthfeel is nice and full, and the chocolate flavors open up into dark fruits, light wood, and some dry leafy tastes in the finish. Nice beer.
