Sweet, earthy, raisiny, slightly woody, toffeeish aroma. Palate is smooth, sweet, oily with raisins, cherry, raspberry and nougat notes. Great complexity here. Exceptionally well-balanced, too. The fruity, vinous accents of the wine really take the sweet barley wine malts to a delicious place. brewshthereen (316), Oregon, USA

Deep golden brown, beautiful and great head and lacing. Sour fermented fruit, woods, almost merlot finish w/ a brown sugar sweetness. Creamy, tart, smooth and tangy w/ a full body. I loved it. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 25, 2004 2001-Thanks to Eyedrinkale. Murky
brown/red color with a small white head. Sweet, malty aroma with dark fruits and oak. Flavor of sweet malt hits you first, followed by the woody oak flavor. It’s not a strong oak flavor, but is
nicely in the background along with caramel, raisins and alcohol. Hops come in at the end to help dry out the finish.
Very nicely done. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA

Bitter because it was my last one, sweet because I opened it with Kevin and hes a cool guy. And this beer rocks. This might be the finest beer I’ve ever drank. No doubt perfect to what a barleywine should taste like. Simply amazing.
2001- Pours a dark murky brown, small bubbly white head. Aroma of barley, alcohol. Flavor is smooooth, rich fruit notes, cherries, grapes, sweet fruitsnacks, and brandy. Very full mouthfull, and a delicious brew. Thanks much to Heemer77 for this tasty brew! DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Yeasty, winey aroma with figgy plum; alchohol notes too. Very nice mellow flavor - winey malt with a nice plum character. The years have treated this beer very well! heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2004 Got this 2001 vintage bottle from a trade with HeRftYDrF. This is slightly couldy dark red and brown with a thin white head on top. The aroma is sweet with oatmeal cookies, flowers and a vineous character. The taste is a dusty sweet caramel. It also has toffee, some chocolate and raisins. these varous flavors come to play as you work your way through a glass. No one characteristic dominates and that makes this complex brew a larger pleasure to partake.
