The sherry and pail fruit flavors explode on the tongue, complemented perfectly by the hops and strong ABV. Wood and earth tones help finish off the tasting experience. A pure dilight for slow sipping on a cold winter night. kbjames (242), Utah, USA

However this was very different from other barleywines I’ve had in the past. It was very smooth and silky but didn’t have the kick I was expecting. I’ll have to try another and get a 2nd opinion. The aroma was herby w/ citrus and hints of alcohol, it poured a dark color w/ hints of red and a thin white head that quickly disapated. The palate was incredibly creamy and smooth.. it was like a party in my mouth.. It tasted of sweet berries w/ a hint of alcohol.. This was very very good.. Please give me more!
Sampled again. This is most definatlelly a 5 in appearance a nice dark brown pour w/ a huge reverse cascade small bubbled thick staying head w/ some great lacing. Aroma has more oak than i remember very big sweetness w/ a more subdued hop than before, i’m assuming do to the age. I now smell more of the wine/sherry aroma... I have re-rated this form a 4.7 to a 5.0. There can be no better beer in my eyes. Other notes I’m amazed this has state as hop assertive in flavor for a beer that is over 4 years old already. This stuff is just soooo good. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark

Man, I just love American barley wines :-) Hazy brown beer with a thick tan head. Sweet fruity and bitter hoppy aroma with tones of prunes, oranges, clementines and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is awesome. Raisins, prunes, bitter/flower hops, cream, fruit, orange peel, cardamom, yummi! Soft as hell. Goood one! Ungstrup (15111), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 21, 2004 [Bottled November 2001, Sampled October 2004] An unclear amber beer with an orange head. The aroma is extremely hoppy, but also contains notes of grass, chocolate, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with lots of alcohol, that burns, but also hops, grass, and berries. Nice winter beer. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2004 Wow...the aroma of this one is unreal...vanilla, wood, coconut, cedar, pine, grapefruit etc...The flavor is solid and complex, but doesn’t wuit match the aroma. The aging in wine casks comes thru and makes this otherwise typical west coast barleywine a standout. JFGrind (1350), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA
