PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA May 12, 2008 2001 Bottle at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Hazy deep amber/copper with a dense tan head. Buttery malt aroma/ diacetyl. Goes well with some toffee, vinous qualities and sherry. Pretty complex. Creamy body with a buttery malt flavor. Toffee-ish, vinous, toasted nutty hints and some light vanilla. Complex and individualistic. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Apr 9, 2008 Sampled @ MIT, courtesy Oakes. Copper-orange color with a thin light tan head. Oak, sweetness, tannins, floral hops, peppery malts on the aroma. Well integrated aroma. There’s still a hefty hop character to the thick malt body, and the oak and sweetness balance out nicely. Still holding up very well. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Apr 5, 2008 Merritt Island Throwdown, bottle thanks to Oakes. Pours murky brown. Smokey nose, also medjool and fig. Viscous, low carbonation. Flavors are earthy and include a smooth clean oak with hop finish, great melange with nice spiciness at end. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Apr 5, 2008 Tim brought this super awesome rare 2001 beer to Lost Abbey today. Pours a thick very cloudy amber color. A first whiff of aroma gives a hint of cardboard oxidation, but it’s very mild and not off putting. Overwhelmed with malty caramelization. For some reason, the oxidation aroma fades very quickly to the point of being unnoticable. Mid to low carbonation. Sweet. Super duper easy to drink. Mellowed to near perfection. Excellent! mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Apr 3, 2008 Courtesy of Oakes and Beershine. Never thought I’d ever get to try this. Thanks guys!! Pours murky brown, with a small light swirly cream colored head. Smells of sweet caramel malt, a little bourbon or oak, vanilla, and some sweet tart fruits. The flavor has seemingly smoothed out over time, but a luscious river of caramel cream and tart dark fruits flows down the throat into the belly. MMM...tasty. Mild bitter aftertaste reminds you of its formidable alcohol content. Has aged with style and grace. Wonderful to say the least. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Apr 2, 2008 huge huge huge thanks to Oakes for this one, wanted to try for sometime. batch 3 2001

Aromas of oak, grapes, vinous notes, figs, dates, light carmel and a hint of spice. Palate was light bodied crisp and slightly tart. Flavors of oak, carmel, fruittiness, some vinous notes and light spice with a crisp lightly tart lingering finish. Beerlando (2286), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 31, 2008 Courtesy Beershine and Oakes. What a great surprise beer! Pours a muddy, cloudy, dark caramel brown color. A small, bubbly tan head leaves behind minimal spotty lacing. The aroma shows rich caramel, vanilla, oak and bourbon. Toffee and faint earthy hop notes are soon to follow. The flavor continues this theme, with smooth bourbon permeating all elements, infusing its sweet warmth into the caramel and vanilla depths. Medium-full bodied, smooth and creamy, this one finishes just a little warm, yet fully pleasing. Great brew, and incredibly well aged.
