JohnC (1735), Mission Viejo, California, USA Apr 3, 2003 Updated: May 9, 2003 Batch #3, bottled November 2001: It poured a cloudy brown color w/ a huge, long-lasting off-white head. This was aged in oak casks that had held some cab franc. Well, you can definitely smell the red wine in the nose. The nose is unique & beautiful. The flavor is smmmmoooooth. Some wine in the background, w/ chocolate, pear & hops. It's complex & extremely well crafted.
wickedpete (551), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Aug 8, 2008 Big thanks to Mike for sharing this big bottle. 2001 bottling. Dark brown appearance with a fluffy tan head. Aromas of caramel, vanilla, and spice come through. Flavor is sweet, caramely, brown sugar, and no lasting bitterness. I didn’t write any tasting notes down for this one because I was enjoying it so much. Only a bit oxidized with very nice brown sugar, caramel, and dark fruit flavors. Alcohol well hidden. This was probably the best barleywine I’ve had, second only to Midnight Sun M. DragonStout (1143), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 4, 2008 WOW!!
