5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - MAR 30, 2003
Vintage 2001,Some what hazy amber color, fairly long lasting head creamy tan in color.Aroma is malty with some hints of wine in it.very slight alcohol aroma, you have to smell hard,if thats possible to actually detect it.I can almost detect some raisin some caramel and something kind of earthy if thats the correct term.Taste is malty some what salty in the beginning i can definately pick out the hop presence in this one,not as syrupy as some barley's i've had but very drinkable some wine tones to it but,not being a wine fan i can't say what kind other then it's a nice addition.the alcohol doesn't make an appearance until the middle and endin the middle you can slightly taste it mixxed with all the other flavors. It's the end that you feel it,warm on the back of the mouth with it continuing all the way down.A nice malty after taste with a slight bitter finish that fades fast. This is definately a brew that would be nice to have more access to well worth the 12 bucks a bottle and deserving a perfect score from me.if that means anything.Well done fish ppl

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 MIBRomeo (2109) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 22, 2004
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2006 batch 3 Botl’d Nov 2001
The aroma was herby w/ citrus and hints of alcohol, it poured a dark color w/ hints of red and a thin white head that quickly disapated. The palate was incredibly creamy and smooth.. it was like a party in my mouth.. It tasted of sweet berries w/ a hint of alcohol.. This was very very good.. Please give me more!
Sampled again. This is most definatlelly a 5 in appearance a nice dark brown pour w/ a huge reverse cascade small bubbled thick staying head w/ some great lacing. Aroma has more oak than i remember very big sweetness w/ a more subdued hop than before, i’m assuming do to the age. I now smell more of the wine/sherry aroma... I have re-rated this form a 4.7 to a 5.0. There can be no better beer in my eyes. Other notes I’m amazed this has state as hop assertive in flavor for a beer that is over 4 years old already. This stuff is just soooo good.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2005 Bottle - (Batch No. 2 - 2000) pours an incredibly murky dark caramel, large foamy off-white head, with seriously sticky lacing. Oh lordy, this 4 year old Barleywine boasts some serious caramel, toffee, dark pitted fruit, and sweet malts on the nose. Is this what CRACK is like? HOLY CRAP#@!#$! Flavor is utterly phenomenal, vanilla, oak, slight bourbon, caramel, light malts, an ever so subtle hop bite... simply INCREDIBLE. Body and mouthfeel are utterly fantastic, smooth and creamy. Finish is absolutely wonderful, caramel, malts, and a soft hop bite. Simply delicious. I am glad I saved this for my Birfday... I will surely get more of this!!!! OMFG is this good. If you ever see this label with the fish on it, make sure to get it, otherwise you’d be stupid not to. My all time favorite Barleywine!!! Batch No. 2 is where it’s at!!!

LIQUID HEROIN

If you see this label http://nwmicrobrews.com/Fish_Tale/Leviathan_Old you would be an IDIOT to not get it.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Uglyradio (791) - Greenville, South Carolina, USA - JUN 7, 2003
Batch 4, Bottled November 2002: This one pours a very dark, clear, reddish brown color with a small, off-white head that lingers a while before dissipating. The aroma is oaky and woody with notes of hops, malts, alcohol, spices, and caramel. It has a full body with soft carbonation and a very smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is infinitely complex. It has notes of oaky woodiness, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla, alcohol, smoke, and immense malt tones. The finish is long and sweet and adds more flavors to the long list established in the beginning of the beer's trek down your throat. One of the most complex, perplexing, and yet drinkable barley wines I have encountered. Fantastic.

This beer rocks!
Murky brown with a lightly-tanned, creamy head that diminishes slightly, but ends up hanging around throughout. Good lacing.
The aroma is heavy with bourbon and fruit of the vine. Very earthy with huge notes of oak, leather and caramel.
The flavor matches the smell and is pretty well-balanced. Wow! Some buttermilk in the flavor too.
Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
Long, woodsy, alcoholic finish.
One of the best beers I’ve tasted in quite some time. Props go out to Slikwily for this excellent brew.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Racegoer (341) - Indiana, Indiana, USA - FEB 14, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2003 750 ml Batch no.4 bottled November 2002, Right from Raindog! Dark Loch Ness Monster Dark, who knows what lurks in these Barleywine infested waters.Aroma is that of full hops and malty eight legged smells of fruity and resiny herbal citric notes. Mouthfeel is nothing short of perfection, fully hopped and voluminous in flavours. I can taste vanilla, perky citric hops, fino sherry flavours, as well as cascading light grapefruit. This is as a complex Barleywine as I have ever had, structured & full bodied and something to be shared with friends, it is a shame I drank this bottle alone as it is a masterpiece of perfection.
