Aroma: Old cheese predominates with sweet caramel and cognac underneath. flavour: vinous, butterscotch, raisins. So well balanced and smooth, yet so complex. A late acidity. Not my favourite BW, but definitely one of the more unique ones. Mads Langtved (2246), Copenhagen K, Denmark

The age has actually brought our some out some sourness, like cherries. Very smooth, but slick body. Silky and easy to drink. Glad I got to share it with people that appreciated it. fly (1334), austin, Tejas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 1, 2003 I will give this credit for finally changing my perspective on "what a barleywine is". Had long held it to be within drawn lines and when one fell out it might be disqualified. What nonsense. This wasn't shocking, but I had the hardest time pulling out what I was tasting. Just the wildest flavor. Very enjoyable. Much more akin to what I think of finding in many Belgian offerings than an American barleywine. After tasting so many others I would love to drink a whole bottle of this leading to the ensuing coma. WOW. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2004 Wow...the aroma of this one is unreal...vanilla, wood, coconut, cedar, pine, grapefruit etc...The flavor is solid and complex, but doesn’t wuit match the aroma. The aging in wine casks comes thru and makes this otherwise typical west coast barleywine a standout. Skinnyviking (4193), Copenhagen, Denmark
