TURDFERGUSON (1021), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 14, 2008 2001 3 Liter bottle shared by acrdz. Thanks Mike! Wow, this was a treat. I didn’t write any tasting notes down for this one because I was enjoying it so much. Only a bit oxidized with very nice brown sugar, caramel, and dark fruit flavors. Alcohol well hidden. This was probably the best barleywine I’ve had, second only to Midnight Sun M. DragonStout (1139), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 4, 2008 WOW!! Sampled at the merrit Island Throwdown courtesy of Oakes, thanx Josh! Where do I start. The pour is beautiful brownish copper color with a thin lacing white head. The nose is sweet, caramel like with hints of the dark fruits. Flavor is well balanced. The dark fruits, caramel, oak and slight alcohol warmth are a great blend. This finished off slightly swet with some woodiness. mkobes (2015), New York, USA Jun 15, 2008 Bottle. Deep copper brown in color with a little white head. Caramel vanilla and malty aroma. Dark fruity notes. Roasty malty, bourbon flavor. Wood and dark fruity flavor. Brown sugar vanilla notes. Aroma is dark malt, dark fruit, wood. Taste is dark malt, dark fruit, wood, some sharpness. pantanap (677), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 27, 2008 750ml bottle (2001 vintage) thanks to Todd! poured a solid dark caramel brown with a thinnish slightly off-white head..... nose made up of aged sweet caramel malt, dark fruit, and some maple. malts have faded and was difficult to detect the fact that it was aged in a cab-franc bottle. somewhat vinous but again, hardly noticeable..... smooth ccaramael malt flavors that were slightly oxidized with some subtle light sourness. mouthfeel was creamy and full and had low carbonation with worked well for it..... pretty good but a little past its prime.
