3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes. Growler share.
My portion was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to ruddy brown color with a slim finger’s worth of white foaminess that quickly dissipated leaving barely any lacing.
The smell was slightly boozy caramel, lightly roasted coffee to a rich nuttiness.
The taste was mainly sweet with the boozy caramel coming about into the coffee - esque and almost a tad of woody, slightly tobacco.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. The carbonation seemed appropriately styled and was good to me.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good barleywine that I would have again.

"the one i had was almost more of the english style...less on the hops...thick, big on malt. the hops that were there were not of the west coast floral variety, but were quite bitter. decent balance, good overall, but i’ve had better."

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650ml bomber pours a cloudy amber orange color with a finger of white head that leaves some thin spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and grains with some citrus and earthy notes. Taste is a fruity and malty sweetness with hints of chocolate and an earthy and citrus hop bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, an aggressively hopped barley that was greatly appreciated and recommended for other beer lovers to sample.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from BevMo, Sacramento. Pours dark brown with a tiny beige head and a treacle and citrus aroma. There is a rather flat nutty chocolate malt flavor with a hoppy bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle from Wade’s Wines. I think age might have dimmed this one over 7 years. There is almost no aroma at all. The flavor was still nice and carmelly. Also no hint of the 10ABV. Good but time has passed it by.

Cloudy brown beer. Softish palate. Rich malt that is very slightly creamy. A little aniseed. Smooth but lacking complexity.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle trade with pabobcat, thanks David. Poured a decent looking muddy-swamp water brown underneath a smaller beige head. Aroma is heavily oxidized with notes of cardboard, caramel, toffee, and some dry grass clippings. Thinner watery body with soft carbonation. Flavor of cardboard, water, caramel and toffee. This one was way way way past it’s prime but still nice to try an almost eight year old body.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber, shared by Lubiere (merci!) with GRM, served cold in a Scotch-Irish glass. 2006 vintage. 08OC10.
App.: Clear copper with a yellow-tan head.
Aroma: Typical American BW, tons of fruit and pine/resin hops, so much sticky malt, tropical fruits, mangoes, marmalade, caramel, rye bread, treacle/toffee.
Palate: Medium+ body, medium-low effervescence, oily/syrupy.
Flav.: Huge malt, cat food/mashy/savoury with tons of caramel/treacle/toffee, tropical fruits, stinging alcohol, pine rye bread crust, marmalade, pine other the top in basically every aspect; sweet with considerable alcohol and a resinous finish that lacks bitterness.
At 4 years old, this might be a bit passed its prime...hard to say.
