Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

From a 22oz Bottle. Pours a mostly transparent, ruby copper color with a thin finger of creamy tan foam. Fruitcake aromas with raspberry and strawberry gumdrop notes, along with hints of toffee malt. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a silky texture. Flavors of strawberry fruits and caramel malt up front on the palate, but this is lost almost immediately in a wave of bitter hops. Excessively hoppy, to the point where the one-dimensional hop bitterness completely overwhelms the malt and aged fruitiness, especially after a few sips. Too hoppy for an old ale, which essentially kills the best parts.

Bottle 05. Pours a dark rusty brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet malts, raisins, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet malts, raisins, brown sugar, alcohol, plums. Palate is full bodied, mild carbonation, finished sweet and warming. Very good stuff, still on the boozey side.

2003 vintage. Dark brown color, very little head. Smooth going down, kind of a port/sherry alcohol to it (not a drinker of either). Sweet candy like aroma. Quite good.

old ale my ass, this is almost a very huge barley wine! dark rusty red, small head. Aroma is hoppy, full of citrus, malts, raisins, farm house, spring flowers, very complex aroma. Taste is heavy but very drinkable. Trying to take this as a slow sipper but it is so incredibly good! Sticky palate, some plums, huge sweetness!! candy, malts with loads of sugar. This is one complex ale and very good. Thanks Tim!

On tap at Belmont Station--Poured a deep orange-golden-amber body wtih a soft, fluffy whitish head. Nose of sweet malts and wood (hence the name). Rich, citrus, astringent flavor. Finished very dry. Complex, bold, busy flavor that might need to age longer, but quite delicious nonetheless.

Bottle shared at Cbus tasting 11. Poured a hazy amber color. Kind of a boozy grape smell. Taste was sweet and malty with a slow alcohol burn. I actually liked this one very much and it was one of my favorites of the evening.
