COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

interesting. smokey, woody, fairly easy to drink. definitely on the sweet / syrupy side. light hopping. not exactly a barely wine - but similar. very enjoyable if a bit cloying.

2008 bottle from brewolf...thanks Micheal! - Pours hazy rosy amber with only a tiny ring of white head. Herbal hops still there on the nose with a sweet boozy breadiness. Taste is big nutty bread malt and light bourbon/caramel sweetness. A decent amount of oakiness in the finish. Very little carbonation with lots of slickness. Still pretty soft, but full-bodied. Pretty good, even though I’m not into big beers right now.

Appearance is a hazy reddish-brown color. The smell is a sweet and malty with a definite alcohol note. The taste us chocked full of malty goodness with a sweetness and almost a taste similar to that of barley-wine style ales.

22 oz. bottle shared by Keir- thanks, Keir! I believe he said it was a 2009 vintage. Pours a cloudy amber color with a small off-white ring for a head. The aroma was surprisingly light on this and has an overall dusty character; as it warms, some dried fruits, toasted sugar, and a little tea and booze at the end. Flavor of brown sugar, dried fruits (figs, raisins), toffee, and Frosted Flakes. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. Had more of a barleywine character than old ale.

@dmacs-750ml bottle-thanks to dmac for sharing–pours a light tan ring for a head and hazy dark amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-toffee, dark fruit-plum/raisin, wood. Taste is smoke/peat/wood/ashy, sweet medium malt-toffee, dark fruit-plum/raisin, alcohol, acidic, some oxidation.

12 oz 2005 bottle. Poured a murky muddy chocolate brown uner a smaller slick of tight foamy light beige head. Actually nice carbonation and appearance for a 6 year old. Aroma of toffee, caramel, slight wood, alcohol, cardboard, light chocolate. Flavor of light smoke, earth, alcohol, light chocolate and dark grains. Really nice beer that aged well.

2005 Bottle shared by Dmac at his tasting. Pours brown. Tan head. Nose and taste of caramel, dried fruit, toffee, wood and plum raisin. Taste has a bit of smokiness and earthiness to it. Held up pretty well.

Thanks to Dmac for sharing this 2005 vintage. Pours out an odd, murky muddy color with a tiny lacing head. Aroma is of sweet caramel, fig and raisin. Taste is complex with caramel, dried fruits, oak, fig and a slight tell of alcohol. Overall this held up very well.

Poured a murky brown, a huge thick creamy head that lasted the entire beer. Sweet malty hops aroma. Alcohol is very well hidden and became more pronounced as beer warmed.

Smells of %, wood and age. There is some depth to this, you can tell just by the smell. A bit musty and old world-like too. Hazy and brown, there is lots of visible yeast and particles that make this one chewy. I like that in a beer. A sharp % hit mixed evenly with sweetness to cover it up, it soon fades out to the barrel taste. This all thins out and the % is there for a bit, but it all dissolves nicely. This was a surprising find.

Pours hazy amber with suspended sediment. Great aroma. Oak, and bread, dark fruit and wine. Nice flavour thick and strong with flavour of bread, and oak with a strong wine flavour to it. It still holds a very malty character. This is an excellent beer. And I really like the label as well. This is very complex and enjoyable.
