4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2015 750 mL bottle poured into a Teku snifter. Batch 3 from November 2001. Originally reviewed 5/6/2013. Pours black with a great mocha head. Good retention. Nice thick collar. Good wisps.Smell has a touch of acidity. Lots of wine notes. Chocolatey with dark fruits. Oxidized, but it adds a nice dimension. Everything comes together perfectly in the taste. Really rich chocolate. Wine is distinctive, but less acidic. Leaning more towards the fruit flavor of the wine. Still very oxidized, but again I think it plays very well. No booze. The body has dropped off, but it seems to just make it easier to drink. Impressive on its own, but truly phenomenal considering its age. Fantastic beer.

Wow, this held up amazingly after 13 years! Pours thick dark blackish coffee with a great creamy dark caramel colored head. Aroma brings complex oaky and chocolatey roast burnt caramel smooth and leathery characters. Flavor brings cocoa espresso holding up so well on a full body with minimal oxidation with some settling pleasant caramel notes.

Bottle share taster. 2001. Super black with an everlasting, creamy, tan cap. WTF?! Aroma of raisin, chocolate, licorice, bourbon. Taste is sweet, and chased with a good sticky, dry mouth.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle. 2002 vintage. Black pour with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is similar with a few additions. I get some chocolate and roasted malt notes as well as some dark fruit, red wine, oak and alcohol. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Great beer.

Batch 4, bottled Nov 2002, thanks Chad!
Unmistakeable oranges. Deeply roasted, lightly fruity booze character, barrels impart unique complexity. Quite interesting and delicious.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml green bottle. Batch #2, vintage 2000. So my brother has had this beer [along with Batch #1, vintage 1999 and Batch #1 and 2 of Leviathan] in his fluctuating temperature garage for over ten years. A few years ago, we decided to start cellaring it at a normal temp. We had nothing better to do tonight, so we decided to rate them. Poseidon pours opaque black with a long-sustaining tan head. Aroma is woody, wine grapes, toasted coconut. Taste is sweet and a little sour (from the wine grapes, maybe?); finishes with a tannic bitterness. Nice creamy mouthfeel, fairly soft carbonation. To be honest, I was expecting a piece of shit! It definitely wasn’t cellared properly for most of its life. What a nice surprise. This was really tasty.
