4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Batch 5, Nov. 2004 vintage.
Pours dark dark brown to black, though not impenetrable with a decent dark tan/light brown head. The nose is very malty and chocolatey with a milky bit of sweetness. Thereís also some hops hanging around as well as relatively subdued alcohol. Perhaps a hint of bandaids? The palate is really truly perfect. Viscous, though not to point of decreasing drinkability, with perfect carbonation levels. This foams in the mouth up to just over the approriate level for the style. Really nice. The flavors are big in this beer. The alcohol doesnít stand a chance against the big malty creamy chocolatiness. Sweet, along with the alcohol, almost to the point of cloying However, this is entirely balanced by the roastiness (though not bitter) and the fairly liberal hops for the style (appropriately a bit bitter). I really liked this beer and first gave it a 10 for flavor before the sweetness got to me. My only regret is that this was our only bottle. Next time Iím out west, Iíll keep an eye open for this.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location: Bottle at Paulís Blind Impy Stout Tasting, 1/5/13
Aroma: The nose has coffee, chocolate, other dark malts, bread, roast, and peat
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a small tan head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, it leans sweet, and tastes a little older and dustier
Palate: The body is is rather creamy and smooth, and it is extremely easy to drink
This one tasted old, but it didnít taste bad. I liked it quite a bit, but I felt like the flavor did suffer a bit from itís age.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle pours black in color with a finger and a half of light brown head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is dominated by chocolate with some coffee and hints of pine and citrus. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness followed up with a bit of coffee and citrus hop bitterness and a trace of pine needles. Medium to heavy body with modest carbonation leaving a pleasant sensation on the palate. A very well done brew for the style and one of my favorites, canít wait to try this one again.

Opaque black stout. Smooth semi dry palate. Rich dark malt. Traces of smoke and cherry. Has a bitterish finish which jars a bit with the smoothness of the start.
