UPDATED: SEP 28, 2012 Bomber at The Fishery Restaurant in San Diego.....how ironic. Never heard of this brewery before but they nailed this one. Great beer....maybe I’m biased because I’m a huge CDA fan.....oh sorry ratebeer.com, I mean Black IPA....lame.

650ml bottle pours almost black in color with 2 fingers of off-white head that settles down to some thin spots of lacing. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate with some citrus. Taste is roasty malt bitterness with some sweetness from the chocolate and caramel malts finishing with a citrus and woody hop bitterness that lingers. Medium bodied with some nice carbonation leaving nice sensations on the palate. A really well done beer in this style.

There is a bitter bite along with molasis malts. Very dark/black. Interesting CDA as CDAs are (AKA black Ipa’s). Deschutes Hop in the Dark (CDA) is another great example of a CDA

Pours a clear dark brown, with a light tan head. Aroma is hoppy. Taste is hoppy, with strong malt notes as well. A nice, fairly well-balanced blend of an IPA and dark beer. Thumbs up.

Black color with feint white head. Strong aroma of sweet piney hops. Easy drinking palate as the beer goes down like a porter with mellow toasted chocolate malt flavors . A fresh hoppy bite at the end with some cola in the finish.

Forgotten review from May 9, 2011. Swordfish pours a dark brown with a two finger thick, creamy beige head with good lacing on the glass. The nose is quite strong with a perceived NW resinous hop, a large herbal note and a dark roasty malt. note of cocoa, burnt espresso and lightly fruity notes. The taste is superb with a bold roast and malt profile that balances well with a medium hop bitterness and a beautiful pine and grapefruit hop taste on the finish. Notes of pine, citrus, toast and biscuit are also found. Medium to full bodied with a beautiful drinkable taste and nice balance for a Black IPA.
