A deep dark brown schwarze with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet earthy chocolate malt with murky notes. In mouth, a faint chicory and chocolate with boiled chick peas, mineral notes, so-so. On tap at Barcade Brooklyn, Dec. 30 2011.

Tap at Spuyten? Pours a deep dark woody brown thin head. Aroma is nutty and chocolate, light roast some burnt coffee, earth- some dark malty sweetness with some wheaty dough. Flavor is dark burnt malts, some nutty chocolate, and some chalky mineral-ness in the finish. Ok.

2009 Tap at the Cape Ann Brewery in Gloucester, MA. Wonderful, wonderful schwarzbier. When I tasted it, I thought I was drinking the smoothest oatmeal stout that I’d ever had. Appears dark brown with little to no head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is smooth and very little to no carbonation. Refreshing, but filling. A great offering.

Tap at Barcade. Nice tap back that I haven’t had in quite some time. Deep brown-ruby beer. Creamy tan head. Aroma is lightly coffeeish with just a touch of light roast on the nose. A little bit burned really. Flavour has a kiss of molasses without any of the heavy sweetness that this aroma usually heralds. Sort of non-descript flavour with a strange macro-esque sweetness that seems quite out of place. There is a touch of coffee and licorice on the back that comes up as it warms, but I still can’t say I’m a huge fan.

Tap at Barcade: Deep brown amber pour with an off white film that fades. Mild aroma- mild barley roast- not very clean with some lager ester fruitiness and molasses. Fizzy and lacking body. Vague barley flavor- light roast with, again, a lager fruity note. Very thin and lacking malt depth.
