1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 RAYBOY01 (2012) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 25, 2005I think there must have been trouble with this one at the ABR fest...because I agree with footbalm: stale, flat, sour apple cider...I did enjoy the ABV however...

Pours a cloudy yellow/lemon with white head. Aroma is sweet like macintosh apples. Flavor is sweet cider without the tartness or dry notes of chardonnay like other apple ales. Body is fairly light with medium carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2007
Sampled on draught at the Fitger’s Brewhouse in Duluth, MN. Pours a semi-clear amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a white ring and some lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt, apple and pear cider with a touch of golden white raisin. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with a good balance of apple cider and caramel multi-grian malt. Finish is more sweet apple and malt flavor than sour bitter as previous years. Looks like this year’s Bayfield crop is slightly sweeter than last years.

It is hard to overstate how sweet this beer is; and the sweetness seems to be from sugar. The sweetness is much stronger than the sour apple flavor. Light yellow color.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 auerbrau (2952) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - OCT 5, 2005
Musky dusk lemon pour, topped with a bubbly and creamy merangue like head. An assaulting whift of sweet, yet savory pummeling of apple pulp and the dregs of apple cider. An increadibly saccharin light apple flaovr, like apple juice with a tinge of brandy, making it a touch sour. Very dry smack to it. Comes across as a real dry and acerbic, but apple-strong mead. Not much depth of complexity, some level of staleness almost. The more I drink this, the less I like it. It gains a strong honey flavor, with a very sour and somewhat inappropriate tinge.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 badgerben (4253) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - DEC 6, 2004
Dark golden color with a thin head. Aroma of musty apple and malt. The taste was very plain. There was a solid malt base, but very, very little apple to build on it. I’m not looking for a sweet apple cider, but it has the apple has to at least pop up to say hello. Disappointing.

On-tap at the brewpub: Hazy golden yellow with an enormously tall puffy sponge of off-white foam on top. Mega staying power, hardly moves keeping one majorly impressive head the whole time. Huge lacing clumps in thick strings and globs.
Unique aroma of pear and pineapple, soft, supple, well-rounded, warm, lofty, touches of yellow raisin and cooked apples(without the cinnamon).
Flavors keep insisting its something its not - apple. Its all pear and pineapple with a warming glow of wheat malt and vanilla. Can’t detect any real apple flavors, or at least ones I can pick out. Not cidery in the least. Its more like a mead then anything. Chewy, warm, sweet with out alot of sour baggage that some fruit ales like to carry. Its smooth and fruity without being anything sour, tart, or too sweet. Its quite "apple"ing (appealing) and different. I was expecting some cider thing but instead found a charming little warm brew with a whole lot going for it.
Feel is chewy and thick, smooth and delightful, body seems about medium, perhaps a bit more to a heavier side then most other fruity type ales. Malty and warming too. A slow an easy going drinker, seems to pack way more then the listed 6.1% as its warmth is quite noticeable. Did I say its like a mead?
One well put together treat. Glad I decided to try it.

Amber Coloring. Good White Head. Apple Aroma....Sweet Cidery Taste Along With Some Grains and Hops. Apple Taste is Tart/Dry Like Apple Skins Instead of the Apple...Nice Take on Apple. Not my Favorite, But Good!
