Great deep brown pour, brown head. Creamy and delicious! The oats give this tremendous body, good lactose sweetness, milk chocolate, toasted nuts.

GABF 2013. Pours a deep brown appearance with a thin brown head. Creamy, coffee, dark chocolate, oaty aroma. Milk, dark chocolate, espresso, a touch fruity flavor with a bit of lingering bitterness. This one was very nice. Would love to drink again.

CaptainCougar (7132) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 18, 2007
On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours an opaque black with a frothy, well-lacing light brown head. Aroma of sweet mapley caramel with some earthy dark chocolate. Body starts sweet and fairly rich with good dark caramel and chocolate maltiness along with molasses. A very nice oatmeal stout.

Tap. Black pour with red highlights. Foamy off white head. Awesome aroma and taste of roasted coffee and chocolate. Silly mouthfeel. Very good stuff.

arminjewell (6176) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 2, 2010
From growler, pours deep black with thin to no head, big big caramel, chocolate, coffee and roasted malt aroma. Taste is just as rich and mouthfeel is creamy with just a touch of carb, big coffee and chocolate blends into an oatmeal-like taste that goes into a roasted and nutty finish. Excellent stout, especially with all that taste and not too much alcohol!

Good chocolate undertones. Creamy, heavy head. Great beer to go along with meal at the brewhouse.

Skyview (5209) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 27, 2007
On tap at the Fitgers Brewhouse in Duluth, MN, pours a dark, near opaque brown brew with a thick and creamy tan head that slowly dissolves. Tan head stays with the beer. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted caramel malt, some coffee and flowery hops. Taste is smooth, creamy, lightly carbonated, and heavy body. Finish is smooth, and little hop bitterness.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours an inky black with some thin, beige head. Nose is very nutty, very malty, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee. Malty flavor, brown sugar, nutty, toast, molasses. Malty, dry finish. Really nice. Very drinkable.

ABR 2006. I don’t think Fitger’s makes a bad beer and this might be Minnesota’s premier brewer. The beer is black, and the aroma has roasted malt and light smoke. Some coffee in the flavor, more roasted grains and a moderately palate. It is very smooth and easy to drink.

muzzlehatch (4424) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - DEC 30, 2004
Sample at the brewpub. Lasting creamy bubbly tan covering atop a ruby-accented blackness -- cocoanut and sweet chocolate eddy in the huge roasty nose -- rich and decadent wine-soaked chocolate cake is touched by vanilla, a hint of bourbon warmth leaves a memorable impression.
