[On-tap at Fitgers] I don’t know if it is batch variation or what, but I certainly seemed to enjoy this a lot more than others that have tried it. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is weak at first, but opens up after awhile, with brown sugar, a big dose of chocolate, some oak, and light raisin. Nice, but not amazing. The flavor is another story altogether. Blackberry/raspberry tartness, a little green apple...lots of fruitiness in here, with cherry skin, red grape and faint blueberry notes also present. It quickly transitions to dark chocolate, some coffee, and oak. Awesome. Medium mouthfeel with a long finish. Overall, I loved this beer. A lot going on, and more importantly, all of the elements complemented one another. A beautiful blend of two styles that I really enjoy (imperial stout and sour), way to go, Fitgers!

Sample @ FoBAB. Black pour. Aroma of brett, cherry, roast and chocolate malt. Very medicinal flavor, I didn’t think it fared well compared to others at the Festival.

A black beer. Dry, medicinal aroma. Flavor is much better however, with sour cherry, making this a good sour ale, or a fruit beer. Medium palate. I like the bite from the sour cherries.

Draft sample at FOBAB 2010. My notes on this are horrible, so take this with a grain of salt. Pours a dark opaque brown with no head. Notes of chocolate, roast, earth, dark fruits (grapes, plums, berries), and tannins. Medium-bodied, with a roasty and fruity mouthfeel and low carbonation. Weird mix of fruit, chocolate, and roast.

FoBAB 2010: Black appearance with a small beige head leading to some lace. The aroma has notes of light band-aid and lactic sourness, cherry skins and juice, black patient, heavy toasted and chocolate malts, light oak and vanilla, with a slight flowery earthiness. The taste starts with roasted and toasted malts with a hint of chocolate and coffee before a sweet and sour cherry flavor comes about. The barrel influence is very light handed but then there is a medicinal character that unbalanced what was a really nice beer, what a shame. The mouth feel is medium bodied and oily. If not for the Chlorophenol undertone I would have really loved this brew. Still the medicinal tone is not overpowering and I got enough goodness to enjoy the experience.

Sampled from the tap at 2010 FOBAB. Poured black with a light brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a slight alcohol note with roasted malts and a nice slight dry cherry note. Flavor started with dry sour cherries that were joined by roasted malt with a slight alcohol backing. A real nice mouthfeel.

Draft at Autumn Brew Review. I believe this was a special IS that they blended with cherries and aged in bourbon barrels. Poured a reddish brown color with a tan head. Wow, tart and sweet cherry notes in the nose. Some dark roasty notes as well. The taste is very cherry forward followed by an earthy oaky taste accompanied by some coffee type taste and bitterness. An interesting blend of flavors that I like. Medium mouthfeel.
