COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Edmund Fitzgerald Imperial Stout was aged in Woodford Bourbon Barrels for 7 months. Expect this beer to be black as night with a dark brown head. Complex aromas of oak, vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate are evident. It is a very full-bodied beer. The flavors are as complex as the aromas; chocolate, bourbon, licorice. This beer won gold in 2010, silver in 2008 and bronze in 2008 at the Barrel Aged Beer Festival in Chicago.

It’s bourbon, some bourbon, and yet more bourbon. Lightly sweet with some chocolate hints and prunes. Nutty and some bitter coffee. A bit overly sweet.

22 ounce bottle # 134/500. Thanks Jeff! Pours black with a very small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, and dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, coffee, fruit, vanilla, and wood. Excellent!!

750 ml bottle to oversized snifter (shared with the Mrs). This was a free contest beer, and I forget the feisty soul who ran three free beer contests all in one thread, but BIG thanks to him for this brew! Bottle #192/500. Looks good; a mostly opaque dark cola with beige lacing. Smells and tastes solid; sweet and boozy with a heavy cherry influence. Solid on the palate, but could be more viscous. Good beer.

Poured from bottle No. 127/500. Pours black with just a bit of thin tan head that quickly disappears. Aroma is lots of bourbon, chocolate, coconut, vanilla and oak. Taste follows the nose. Tons of vanilla and chocolate. This is a really tasty beer.

On tap at Winterfest 2013. This was one of my top wants at the fest as I have been looking to try this for a while. When that happens, the experience usually doesn’t live up to the hype, but not in this case. Wow, I thought this was amazing. Black pour with no head. Chocolate, vanilla, wood and of course bourbon in aroma and taste.

Bottle 240/276 thanks to alen. Pours with a near black hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are of cola, brown sugar, bourbon, dark fruits, leather, oak and rich raisins. Flavors are of bourbon, leather, tannin, dry. Slightly odd finish. Lightly ashy finish. Great bourbon warmth. Bitter. Medium carbonation and fuller bodied.

Bottle 137/500 from the 2012 batch. Dark pour with a thin tan head. Nose is dark fruit and bourbon. Roasted malt goodness, a touch of bitter chocolate followed with a deep bourbon finish. Really nice, some age would help tone down the heat just a bit - glad I purchased a few!

Sample FOBAB ’12 - I’ve had this in the past, but a friend suggested a revisit - solid decision... Pours black with a medium dark brown head. Aroma is inviting and has a mellow bourbon presence (at least when compared to many ’peers’) that meshes well with other sweet malt, coffee and dark chocolate notes. Flavor has a good dose of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, some wood in the background and mellow bourbon. Quite an easy drinker for the ABV and nice and smooth mouthfeel. I’ll gladly take another pour of this any day!

Enjoyed on tap at FOBAB. Served in a my FOBAB taster glass. A: Pours a very dark black color with a thick, tan head forming on the pour. It recedes slowly leaving behind nice sheets of lace. S: Bourbon, dark fruits and caramel up front. There is an underlying roasted malt notes that’s paired with some oak in the periphery. T: Wow. Dark chocolate bitterness and milk chocolate sweetness seem to be going back and forth over the palate. Decadent fudge, smooth bourbon and sweet caramel notes as well. M: Medium low carbonation with a heavy ad creamy body. Goes down incredibly smooth and highly drinkable for 9.60%. O: This was sneaky hit for me. I’ve heard great things about this and didn’t even realize it was at the fest until I stumbled across it. I went back for a second pour and I’m glad I did. I’d love to get a bottle of it. Serving type: on-tap
