4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap @ GTMW 2006. Semi-translucent and golden amber in color with a sudsy off-white head. Sweet candied apricots and starfruit make an aromatic name for themselves, joining nectarine and orange marmalade to amplify the tropical fruit aromatics. Bitterness surrounds the flavor with candi sugar glazing fresh apricots and grapefruit. Balanced testament merits rock candi and apricots at each sweet suckling turn. Smooth cotton attracts while orange blossoms rhythmically pursue. Bitter abatement is supported by papaya and guava topicalities. Medium-bodied and a joyous palate occasion, finishing with oily apricot and grapefruit residue.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Orange colored with some head... but who cares about looks! Holy crap, I smell hops! Bold citrusy piney hops that surround you. Decent body and mouthfeel with a sturdy malt base, but the hops, as they should be, are the dominant story. If you like clean super hoppy IPAís, You will love this stuff. Iím not a hophead, but I still appreciated this.

116ibu...but whoís counting? Big inviting grapefruit and pine resin aroma...they are present in the flavors , too, as well as orange, toffee/caramel, and more hop bitterness than should be allowed. If I could, I would have brought a growler back for you, Cornfield, but that, alas did not happen.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: clear and deep-orange to ruby in tint, with a slim, but stable layer of foam keeping guard on top.
Aroma: raw, piney hops at the fore, revealed in full after a few sniffs...vibrant and abundant in deep, dark fruit. Herbal...piney/sprucey..Dry-hopped? this is an aroma that needs time to open in order to fully spill forth all of itís delights.
Big, bitter hoppy bite, quite a way to start, mellowing Ś†bit as itís time to swallow. Bitterness lingers. Taste gets juicier with the next sip and gulp, bitterness hangs more on the tongue. Very tangy, with a simmering citric character, grapefruit, grape, berry, but raw, potent hops rubbing up against everything and utterly coating and dominating the palate...not that I mind. I like that kind of thing, mind you...
Sweetish caramel malty background provides excellent support...very yummy, with the bitterness...this is "double-hopped", if I recall correctly...never settling down...balance schmalance, I say, leave these to professionals and go get yourself a "bitter".
Damn this is nice. Like others have commented, it almost reminds me of Mama...almost, but I quite approve the effect and the intentions, and will enjoy the rest of this growler for sure, and look forward to more (on cask?) when next I visit Duluth.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2005 Pineapple and Kiwi aromas. Beautiful velvety brown color. Very fruity and sharp. Super hoppy, typical of an IPA. Finishes with pine and grapefruit. Smacks tart and a little bitter.

Dark gold or orange color with little head. Citrus and hops abound with a solid floral hit at the end of the sip. Solid IPA.

Dark orange pour with a thick, froth white head. Good solid sprucey nose. Solid citrusy flavor with weast coast hopping. Has a bit of a caramel back end to it as well. Good thick mouthfeel. ABV of 7.0 is hidden well. Overall, an excellent Brewpub IPA.
