COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This malty high gravity golden lager originated high in the Rockies at Keith’s last brewery in Gunnison, Colorado. Brewed for the coldest months, this winter warming lager benefits from the addition of fresh orange zest and lychee puree. The fruit notes offset the rich smooth grain flavors and adds a touch of sweetness.

(growler) This beer sounded interesting, so I decided to pick up a growler on my way through Duluth. Pours a very hazy orange color with a medium off-white head that quickly settles to a thin cap. Head disappears completely. Aroma is unique but very nice, with the lychee coming through fairly clearly and the orange zest lurks more in the background. There’s a honey-like scent coming through as well. The flavor holds a good amount of pale malt sweetness in the front, with the fruit elements really touching off in the mid and finish. The lychee hits first and is then quickly followed by the orange zest which is far stronger here than in the aroma. The finish carries on with some graininess with a faint bit of alcohol heat, but this drinks a lot smaller than it is. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is dialed down. Overall this is a pretty unique beer that was really good.

On tap at the brewpub. Peculiar citrus and other muddled fruit aroma, quiet. This has got to be one of the most disastrous lagers I’ve had in a long time. Overly sweet, super hot, and messy, with all sorts of strange yeasty byproducts. I couldn’t make it through a quarter of my 10oz pour. Bubblegum, guanabana, and turpentine. Rough stuff.

Winterfest 2013. Brown color. Very well carbonated. Sweet with caramel and hop resin. Solid beer. I can’t say I realized this was a lager while drinking it. A little thin on the palate.

On tap at Winterfest 2013. Yellow pour with nice amount of head. Malty and citrus / fruity. Expected to like this more but maybe it was an unfortunate rate right after the BA Edmund.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tap at Winterfest 2013. Hazy gold pour with a huge white head. Full bodied and sweet - citrus/orange elements on the taste.
