3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 arminjewell (3116) - Parker, Colorado, USA - MAY 29, 2011
Pours very hazy yellow with white head into snifter on tap, aroma has notes of bubblegum, barn, sweet fruity citrus, some slight earth. Taste is a bit odd, has sweet notes of fruit and citrus with a slight spice from the yeast, but then stays sweet without the dryness coming in but still has a slight bitterness. Good, but a bit left to be desired.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Stine (1399) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - AUG 7, 2007
Golden apricot pour with a milky appearance. Pineapple, coriander and bananas on a nose with a sharp, zesty gin edge. A light, fruity flavor is obscured by a mild cloud of aerosol. Packs a punch even in a small amount. This evolves a bit into more of floral shampoo quality. Grapefruit and cantaloupe notes beside, definitely struggling with a weird IPA identity. Palate is too wet and creamy, with a very bitter bite. No discernable farmhouse qualities for all these hops to play with. Might have been interesting.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 undsioux7 (745) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - AUG 5, 2007
On tap at brewery. What a nice suprise this one is. Pours Gold/yellow with a small white head. Nice floral, grassy hop aroma with just a bit of farmhouse funk. Taste is mostly the same, but with a light pepper and coriander spice. This was good.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 22, 2007
Pours a clear golden color with about half an inch layer of white foam. The foam quickly settles down to a ring and thin film. A little bit of lace. Good aroma of spice.
The taste is of sweet, smooth, malt - with wheat and honey. There is a moderate floral hop presence. And lots of spice throughout. Finishes with a dry spicy coriander and a very subtle alcohol bite. You really notice the spicy saison yeast (I’m guessing WL 550) in this beer. Lightly carbonated and medium body. The spicyness really sticks with you in the aftertaste - very nice. Very drinkable - but watch it - its not a lightweight beer by any means.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - DEC 30, 2004
Sample, then glass, at the brewpub. Pale golden, opaque and cloudy, swirling yellow starts...the ring of foam lasts indefinitely...soft sweet inviting nose, with ginger and coriander competing gently amidst an orangepeel center...sweet and yeasty initially on the tongue, a sour citrusy backbone is interrupted as it warms by light touches of oregano and tarragon...at the finish, citrusy acid and pepper win over the earthy malts and it goes on, and on, and on....
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - DEC 27, 2004
Cloudy Gold Coloring with Good White Creamy Head. Grassy Saison Aroma. Lightly Hoppy. Upon First Experiencing This Brew on The Tongue...It Tasted Like a Saison...With Many Grassy, Floral Flavors...And After Consuming This Pint, Coriander Became the Dominant Flavor and Made the Grassy Saison Notes Disappear. Light Hoppy Bite to it...Dry Ending But Balanced Overall. You Have to Enjoy the Flavors of a Saison, But Very Enjoyable and Presumably VERY Enjoyable in the Summer over the Winter.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 heykevin (1269) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - JUN 11, 2002
I thought that this was a pleasant beer with nice hops good maltiness and quite a bit of buttery quality. Not sure about the stylistic description. It didn’t seem to have any of the yeasty bite that I enjoy from saisons. (Perhaps I was served the pale ale? I did enjoy the beer quite a bit, I’m just not sure it was the saison.)
