4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Nuffield (3090) - Roseville, USA - OCT 31, 2011
This was plenty good. Hazy chestnut brown with red hues. Very smoky flavor, rich with band-aid and salami. Well rounded mouthfeel, balancing malts and alcoholic edge. An all around success, with big flavors and highly attractive qualities in every direction. (on tap at brewpub)

some awesome great lakes area trade partner bonused me this beer, been waiting to crack it.... wow. bottle 174/204. big ass smokey brew here. pours like a brown ale but drinks like beef jerky extract. one of the better overly smoked brews ive had. pretty balanced considering the dominated smoke and meat presence. tastes like charred salami. seems like this would be a 5.0 in a smoke geeks ratings. has super meaty mouthfeel and finish, chewiest ive had straight up. crazy stuff. i can enjoy half this bomber, but im not a smoke head so that will be about it for me.

Pours a clear, dark brown with no real head. Aroma is a lot of smoke with woody notes. Flavor is also quite smokey though sweet malt and almost a medicine tinge comes through as well. Medium bodied with some carbonation. This is a great, smokey brew,

Winterfest ’11. I love smoked beers and this one did not disappoint. It was served from a bottle rather. Strong aroma of smoked grain and smoked wood. Medium sweet malt, and a very thick palate. One of the highlights of the festival
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 OSLO (1133) - Ames, Iowa, USA - FEB 21, 2011
[750mL C&C Bottle] I’ll preface this rating by saying that I often struggle to give good ratings for smoke beers. I drank this whole bottle by myself, and I still was not able to give it the type of rating that I would like. Anyways...it poured deep red with almost no head. The aroma is, surprise, big on smoke. A little sweetness showed at times too--almost a fruity sweetness, but I only got it once in awhile. Band-aid is also present. The taste is about the same, lots of smoke, but not overpowering. It still is fairly one dimensional, but not bad. Very little carbonation, in fact, nearly flat. Fairly thick, smooth, long, chalky finish. As far as smoked beers go, I did enjoy this one. That having been said, it isn’t exactly my style, and it isn’t something that I would want to have very often.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 CLevar (288) - Minnesota, USA - FEB 20, 2011
Sample at Winterfest. From notes. Oh the smoke, it burns, it burns! I like smoked beers. One of my highest rates is a smoked beer. But I could not finish the 2 oz pour of this guy. Pitch black, with a dark tan head that is gone quick with no lacing. Overpowering smoke on the nose, nothing else is clawing through that. Flavor isnt quite so bad, some actual flavors there, earthy, a bit of burnt caramel. Dial back on the smoked malt next time...
