hezron (592), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 5, 2007 Big thanks to CharlesDarwin for bringing this growler and leaving it with the small Madison crew. Toasted Wheat aroma, chocolate and caramel and a touch of banana esters, roast and lots of clove. Dark, muddy brown with a thin, light-tan head. First thing I notice is the dominant, toasted, almost burnt wheat flavor. Woven through the flavors are bits of chocolate and caramel with bubblegum, banana and clove in the finish. The flavor is nicely bitter and warming, not overly sweet, though I think it could use some more caramelization. Nicely carbonated, medium mouth feel with a dry, almost astringent finish.

Thanks to CharlesDarwin for sharing this. We did not get a chance to try it during a tasting so I shared it with hezron two days later. I’m suprised that it is considered a weizenbock - it tasted more like a dunkelweizen to me. Still, this was an all around enjoyable beer which is worth a try if you come across it.
Aroma / Appearance - A one finger sandy colored head danced on the surface, protecting a molasses colored body with sticky chunks of residue floating on the sides. Overall it was nice looking but nothing out of the ordinary.
Flavor / Palate - The first sip was very thick and creamy. Roasted coffee, malt and caramel formed the core but there was also a woody presence in the foreground. Cherry pits baked into sourdough bread create an interesting transition to a vanilla climax. The rye finish lingers on the tongue and throat before finally letting go. This strikes more as a dunkel than a weizenbock but either way it was very enjoyable. I could have finished off the whole growler singlehandedly. detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 22, 2007 Pours a solid brown color, a shade darker than cola. A brief and fizzy tan head disappears very quickly. No lacing. Dry wheat and sweeter chocolate malt in the aroma.
Flavorful with the full maltiness of a bock - sweeter chocolate and fruity, then in comes a dry wheat and even an earthy rye-like flavor. I catch a spicy bread flavor in there as well - call it clove and zuchini bread. Earthy maple, bittersweet chocolate, and fig newton in the aftertaste. Medium to full body, light carbonation.
Lots of flavors for sure Pigfoot (2224), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2006 Darkness abounds here, deep mahogony, with a slim, soon gone head.
Aroma speaks of dark fruit, big time banana, caramel, light spices...sweetness, indeed, very nice... a swell blending of weizen and bock.
Tastin’ it: caramel-y first, yummy, candy-ish malty flavor, met next with slight spices, tingling the palate, then the dark fruit, dates, grapes, blackberries...very good. Yum, wheaty...deliciousness.
Full bodied, indeed...long, sweet, tasty finish. Very complex and rewarding. This is a rare brew, one that requires moments of contemplation and reflection, makes you slow down and check back with everything as you savor each sip. Drinking it now makes me wish I had a party going on and a dozen friends to share it with...too bad for them. hooray for me.
Does it taste like 7.5%? Just a little...Does it taste dandy and delicious? Yup, plenty much and then some. Yay, Fitger’s! robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Apr 1, 2006 Dark Dark Brown Coloring with No Head. Stalwart Malt on the Nose. Malty Flavor with Light Dry Mouthfeel...Balanced Wheat Flavors Embedded in the Beer with Esters Rounding Out This Tasty Bock.
