Tap at Fitger’s on Nov. 17, 2011. Red amber pour with a fluffy cream head. Aroma and taste are very mild caramel and bread. A bit watery.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Nuffield (3090) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - OCT 31, 2011
I love mild. I’ve had some great ones (especially in England). The problem here is that it is too mild--it feels like fluffy water, with a very hollow flavor, like vanilla ice cream whip (the fake ice cream) that doesn’t really melt even when it gets warm. It keeps a light foam head. Not worth the effort. (on tap at brewpub)
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 27, 2007
On tap at the Fitgers Brewhouse in Duluth, MN, pours a coppery brown, almost Irish red, brew with a creamy off white head. Aroma is very light malt, some peat, farm barn mustiness, and a little raisined dark fruit. Taste is slightly sour/bitter, light body and quite watery. Finish is light and dry. Almost falling into the lawnmower beer territory.

Dark amber color with faint creamy head. Malty nose, faintly sweet with a raisin character. Slightly bitter malty body that didn’t have a lot going on - watery.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 badgerben (4116) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAY 14, 2005
Dark brown color with a very creamy Guinness-like head. Just a hint of malt in the aroma. Very earthy and grainy taste. Bitter finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 auerbrau (2668) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - APR 29, 2005
Clear dark brown topped witha full finger of super creamy and fine light chocolate head. Aroma of grass, earth, sheep barn, peat and oats. Interesting flavor complex as it warms on the tongue. Eart and grass continues, but backed off by strong diacetyls in the form of rich fresh buttermilk. This fades into a toasty burnt hazlenut profile. Combine all of this with a rindy and musty Cashel Blue cheese in the back ground. This is all riding on a waterfall of rich and bold roasted oats. Watery, lightly carbonated, and light on the alcohol, but very drinkable and smooth, with a smack of hoppy bitterness.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUL 27, 2003
Salt air aroma, which is fitting. Held up to light, a dark reddish hue is apparent. Head and body similar in appearance to Guinness. Smooth flavor; like the nitro injected Guinness. As advertised, dark in color, but light in body. Drinkable but not all that special.

First real mild I have had the opportunity to sample, and I’m impressed. Light on the tongue, virtually no hop presence but there is an extremely nice maltiness here. Hints of roasty grains, as well as liquorice and of nuts. This is a high quality beer.
