Malty, sweet, molasses aroma. Clear dark amber; nice color but otherwise average appearance. Strong stone smoked flavor, which begs the question, how does a beer become kilt smoked? Not bad.

MN Winter Get Together, 2006: Growler courtesy of Robertsreality. Dark brown color with no head. Carmel aroma with a hint of smoke; not nearly as much as is usual for a smoked beer. The smoke comes out good in the flavor and it has an Islay-esque peat hit. Strong malt and a slightly syrupy feel. Nicely done. I don’t think anything 100/~ can technically be "traditional", but I’m willing to overlook that...

I generally don’t care for smoke, but this beer did it well. Besides the smoke aroma the beer is simple with a sweet malt flavor. It needs more body, but goes down easy enough. It is cool to see a brewpub attempting something like this.

Deep mahogany. Sour and a bit milky, quite sweet with lots of molasses and some maple syrup. Smokiness is light, more or less buried under the dark sweetness.

growler courtesy of Robertsreality. Nose is very strange indeed as it was like rotted silage, weird for a smoked.Tasted a little better with some smokey notes and something like burnt toffee or something.

My smoked beers experiance has been limitied. While not the beer I’d go running to, I found this to be pretty decent. Whereas the Rogue Smoked had an unsetteling smoke flavour, this has a meaty grilled taste and aroma.

Burnt sienna pour, with orange fringes and a thin ivory cream head. Light salty aroma with a hint of grilled hot dog. Flavor is a dense creamy oat, with almost no smoked flavor beyond a light and gentle roasted meat flavor that shows through. As a Scottish, a fantastic rendition, with high drinkability and some toothy and chewy grain character. A hint of bourbon alcohol that warms and rounds. Not much bites, instead palate is a smooth watery dissapation into a hint of oak a big dose of smacking hazlenut,
