3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 boFNjackson (2935) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 6, 2012
Growler fill... Poured amber/orange with a bubbly head. Nose was Danny, skunky hops/Mary Jane-like. Clean, balanced, citrus, tropical fruits and a bitter finish.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 auerbrau (2666) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAY 22, 2005
Very murky amber brown pour, with golden orange fringes. Topped with a thin head of extremely creamy rich ivory head. Rich citrus and floral aroma, backed with a deep sweet cream pine and cherry. Aroma very reminiscent of a barleywine. Flavor starts surprsingly watery on the front end. Flavors present themselves on the back end better, with a one-dimensional hop profile and a sweet plum and cherry flavor. Quite rich and creamy. Muhc like an extremely hoppy American Style barley wine, but missing a malt component or two. Aftertaste is a citrus and floral smack of hop sugars. Probably not as hoppy as most hop-heads would like, but is pretty good.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2004
2004 GTM. Amateurish aroma. Cloudy light brown. Large bubble light brown head. No lace. Hoppy flavor, some alcohol. Somewhat unrefined. Served a little warm, in keeping with its cask ness. I had heard some good things about this brew, and perhaps it was that it was up against very stiff competition, but I ended up being underwhelmed.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2004 Sampled this beer at the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison WI. Even though my scores on this are accurate and well researched, Da Man wants me to say more about the beer, so I will. What a beautiful aroma. Taste is somewhat disapointing, but not bad

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - JUL 9, 2004
On-tap at the brewpub: Hazy caramel orange color, thin off-white head keeps a good foamed bubbly skim; super fine lacing in intricately woven yet thick sheeting.
Aroma has a big bubble gum presence with mixing sugar coated melon sweetness and juicy, resinous piney backed hops. A slight backing of toasty caramel keeps a nice sweet tone distinguised among the fruits and sugars.
Taste has a welcoming mild front of melon, quickly sugar coated, mellow for a good while with hop pine juices. Great toasty malt factions grabbing through from underneath. About 8 seconds later the fun begins where large and lengthy resin filled pine bitterness just rips out the throat and squeezes out any reminents of food or drink before. And it has one hell of an alcoholic hit, wowza! But that late bittering finish is awesome. Hello... hops!
Creamy, somewhat buttery medium body, lots of hop kick in the finish, actually a ton of hop kick. Oh, and watch out for that 11.9%, that sneaks up on ya right quick.
This is a bigtime biggly big Imperial IPA. Wow! I think my head is still swimming. Very nice stuff! Fitger’s won me over with Misty Mtn...now they’ve bowled me over with this.
