COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Trampled by Hops is a North Shore Style pale ale brewed as a tribute to a great bunch of guys in a band called Trampled by Turtles. After the last album came out (called Duluth by the way) we wanted to give a shout out to them for all they do for our community and for the Brewhouse. Many of the band members play our stage with other groups they are in and at least one Eric is ex-brewhouse kitchen. So the boys named the beer and asked for HOPS. We gave them hops in a huge way. We used a new hop to the brewhouse called Ahtanum (notes of lemon and citrus) with 6 other unique hops to craft a very hoppy (not bitter) pale ale. Cheers!

Draft at Autumn Brew Review. Pours a clear amber orange color with an off white fluffy head. Very citrus and floral type notes in the nose. Some lemony type notes as well. Medium mouthfeel. Citrus rind bitterness mixed with some of the lemon zesty tastes as well. Very hoppy and they might have gone too far with the hops (if that is even possible!). Ends with a lingering bitterness. The downside of this beer is that it probably would not be terribly drinkable after half a pint or so form the amount of hops. But nonetheless, I didn’t think it was too bad.

On tap at the brewpub. Big, blossomy Simcoe and lemony, catty hop aroma. Super resiny, super yellow, super bright and fresh. Pours a coppery amberish, a bit hazy, with almost no head. Flavors are good and strong on the green and yellow hop resin flavors, super-fresh. Pithy Simcoe-like continues in very strong fresh hop flavors. Maltiness is a little thinner, but with more hop flavor than bitterness, there’s not as much a need to hold it up. Dry, which I appreciate. Very hopflavorul.

OSLO (1133) - Ames, Iowa, USA - OCT 2, 2010

[On-tap at Fitgers] Pours a dark reddish brown (I think, it was pretty dark in there), with an off-white head. Aroma is weak at first, but very nice nonetheless. Lots of citrus, especially grapefruit, with some light sweet caramel notes. Despite the description, actually is pretty bitter, with lots of grapefruit rind, mandarin orange, and some graininess at the end. Thick, smooth and has a long finish. A nice, sessionable beer that really shows off some grapefruit character.
