Draft at the brewery. Two words: malt bomb. Thick, heavy and almost salty. Beefy, even. Good one for a chilly rainy day. Where’s the shepherd’s pie? (#5677, 8/29/2014)

Sample at Fitgers. Doughy, toasty, pretty nice. Clean and balanced, solid offering. Smooth caramel finish.

csaso (1370) - Missouri, USA - APR 9, 2013
Tap - good size foamy head, medium amber color, grassy hop aroma and flavor with a sweet malt backbone, a little bit of a weird kick at the end, bubblegummy or something ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating based on two 12-oz. pours from a growler, picked up for me by my girlfriend at the Brewhouse in Duluth. Consumed on 6-28-12. Growlered on 6-5-12. Fresh, fruity, floral, very pleasant aroma features toffee, peach, raspberry, and cookie scents. Pours a clear copper with a small amount of beige head with some lacing. Flavor is dry at first with biscuit and cracker elements. A sweetness develops and stands out upon multiple sips: Fruit juice, molasses, and marmalade flavors. Ends up perhaps a little too sweet. The maltiness is English but the hops are more American. Long, lightly dry aftertaste. Medium body. Easy to drink. Sticky. A tad undercarbonated from too much time in the growler, but the impact seems small. This seems like it would be a good brew to imbibe at a brewpub, though I drank it at home. Well made, enjoyable, and pleasant, but I don’t think I can praise it more highly than that.

Tap at the brewpub. Aroma is grassy hops, slightly nutty and a touch fruity. Pours copper with frothy white head. Fruity hops and some dried and nutty malt on the palate. Medium bodied and finishes with a grassy hop zestiness.

Nice take on a traditional ESB...gentle floral hopping nicely balanced by sweet caramel malt...a little bit of maple syrup note and lemon spicing...all rolled into an easy drinking creamy brew.

Dark copper color with a thin head. Aroma of maple and malt. Sweet malt taste with a disturbingly high impact of alcohol. Slightly syrupy. The alcohol really threw me off on this one.

auerbrau (3177) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAY 19, 2005
Clear deep orange and brown pour, topped with a pancake batter bubbly deep ivory head. Light woody and sweet aroma. Very oaky flavors, combined with a nice dose of somewhat mellowed, but very prevalent hops. A very kicked up ESB. Super sweet and chock full o’ nuts. All backed with a nice floral and lemon overtone. Aftertaste is composed of strong dry, yet rich, oak and good hop sugars. Well rounded combination of the two; sweet malt and aromatic hops. Palate is dry, after a bout of sweetness, before finishing with a satidfying toasted almond and fresh cake aftertaste. A little buttery, with some diacteys showing through. Overall, a very respectable ESB.
