COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Keg & Bottle; Regular.

A full bodied, aromatic Red Rye ale brewed with malted barley, the addition of 20% Rye to the recipe, and with Chinook, Columbus and Simcoe hops. We think the Rye in the recipe gives some dryness and spice, and the hops add a dash of pine and passion fruit, but see what you think, everyone’s taste buds are different. This is an incredibly flavoursome Red Ale, full of lots of interesting tastes and aromas.

Bottle at The Tasting Room, Liverpool St, London. Hazy red brown, cream head fades but leaves lacing. Nose of caramel, peppery spice, citrus. Tastes fairly sweet cinder toffee, caramel, rye bread, fairly bitter, some juicy zesty citrus and resin. Medium body, softish carb. Not bad.

Bottle. Dark tree sap pour, frothy receding head. Heavy spruce and malt aroma - quite forest like, keeping with the sap theme... Spice, touch of citrus, a bit rum-y. Prominent malt backing. Fairly plain, clean mouthfeel. Ambers have never been a favourite of mine, but this seems to hit the right notes for what you’d be aiming for.

Keg at the Cock Tavern - London. Pours clear amber-brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has lots of dry brown bread, juicy pine, ripe citrus and dried berries. Medium sweet flavor with lots of rich wholegrain bread, bitter pine, some juicy and oily grass, berries, rindy citrus, general ripe fruits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and massaging texture. Bitter finish with lots of lightly dried, bready malts, some caramel, earth and pine, dried citrus fruits, orange rind. Good stuff. Got some teeth it does.

Sampled at the Cock Tavern. Clear amber color, small off-white head. Aroma is a bit weird, a bit plant like. Taste malts, caramel, again a bit plant like, some butter and old hops. Average body, firm carbonation.

Cask, The Swan & Rushes, Leicester. Hazy copper, red with a cream foam. Aromas are raisins and red berries with toffee and oak barrel. Peppery alcohol with a light smokiness. Bready yeast with orange rind and pine. Flavours are juicy, fruity malts with toffee and a grapefruit and pine bitterness. Sweet oranges with spices. Smooth on the palate, perhaps too slick, with a spicy, herbal finish. Decent.

Bottle from deeside drinks emporium. Pours a reddish brown with a small white head that doesn’t stay around long. A strange mix of aromas. Varnished wood, blackcurrant wine gum and strawberry jam with something spicy in there. Taste is similar but with a strong pine finish that leaves a spice on taste buds.
