Bottles in Palaiokastritsa, Corfu. Congealed candlewax, raffia, almond, glue and lemon hints aroma (probably mozzie repellant)- pretty unappetising.. Couldnt drink this the other night; tonight I’m struggling- bilious regurgitated sweetcorn, licked stamp and gluey, brackish rancid fat/almond flavour. Pale gold with a wisp of halo. Flat, fatty, lacking fizz or corn sweetness, even.. I’ve had better bottles, but this is a rancid, sub-Albanian mess.

Bottle. Boring pale pour, with fizzyness - ugh. Some sugariness. Barely any hops of which to speak... Washing liquid finish. Blech.

A very attractive, shimmering, golden amber body holds aloft a thin and compact white crown for the length. Salty and quite grainy, sweet and cereal-like is the nose with a hint of chaff, palest honey and dried mown grass. Light on for flavour though I did try it super chilled from the bottlo’. Fills out as it warms. Sweet, toasted and biscuity malt upfront and across the mid-palate. Quite gritty and dry in back with a crisp, lightly grassy hop finish. Peppery, almost minty linger. Light bodied with racy, sprightly carbonation. Slightly soapy feel but nothing unclean here. Very easy drinking. Balanced between sweet malt and dry grain and hop. Can’t say too many negatives with this. Quite good to ’go against the grain!’ (33cL, BB 24/11/16, Cellarbrations Lynwood)

Classic Greek pale lager, in existence from 1864 till the eighties and then resurrected in 2000. Cobweb-lacing, snow white, medium sized head, clear ’old gold’ colour. Aroma shows signs of oxidation (older bottle!), next to impressions of dry breakfast cereals, soggy chicken grain, dried grass, some vague iron, bread crust. Typical pale lager grain sweetish flavor, cereally, thin body with fizzy carbonation, light grassy hop bitterish touch in the finish but otherwise remaining thin and grainy. Fairly neutral overall, a tad too old, very stereotypical.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear golden with a medium bubbly head and an aroma of malts, ripe fruits and grain. The taste is pretty plain, this is a drinkable beer, but not special at all.

330 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 4/16/2017. Pours crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread, light biscuit, straw, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Okay aromas with solid balance of pale/adjunct malt and light earthy hop notes; with decent strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread, light biscuit, straw, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Minimal herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good robustness and solid balance of pale/adjunct malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness. Fairly clean on lager flavors; with some light yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly grainy mouthfeel that is good. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a decent Euro pale lager style. All around good robustness and solid balance of pale/adjunct malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, fairly crisp, and refreshing to drink. An enjoyable offering.

Pours clear orange body with medium sized, lasting, soapy white head. A bit of lacing left on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with hints of corn. Thin body, regular carbonation. Texture is somewhat thicker then expected. Taste is pretty much your usual macro lager. Combination of malts, yeast, corn, grains and acidic metallic bitternes. Watered down. Overall, unimaginative as expected.

Sampled on draught at a taverna in Crete. Standard euro lager. Pretty tasteless but OK in a hot climate.

0.33 l can from a local grocery store in Thessaloniki, Greece. Clear golden, diminishing white head. Fake hay and grassy aroma, sweet corn, very lousy. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, unpleasant finish. This one’s bad.
