Dark brown hazy, creamy tanned head. Smells lightly of roast, then nuts, hints of dried fruits and malts. Light sweet, quite fruity of yeast and malts. Moderate bitter finish. A very playful brew.

500ml bottle from Meny Oslo City, shared with other ratebeerians at Cunningham’s place. Opaque dark brown pour supported by a fair, fawn-coloured head. Brown candied sweet malts on the nose. More prominent taste profile with mid-sweet roasted brown malts, hints of nuts and caramel. Dusty hops to the ending. Medium to thin bodied. A tad too sweet, otherwise an okay version of the style. Bottle, shared by Rune. An unclear brown beer topped by a small, beige head. Roasted aroma with coffee and some brown sugar. A bit sweet on the palate, with coffee flavor and a pleasant bitterness. Roasted malts too. Mostly roasted finish, with sweetness at too high levels. A decent one, nothing more. 140214

Bottled. Opaque reddish brown body. Low beige head, quickly fading to ring of bubbles. Fresh-smelling. Apple fruitiness, rounded gently roasted dark malts, and som fine toffee tones. Light to medium full, slick on the palate. Fresh-tasting, as well. Fully balanced flavors of gently roasted caramel malts, an inviting fruitiness, and just the right amount of bittering hops. A moreish and well crafted Brown Ale.

But Margit & Aasmund, I did what you asked, I let the bottle stand for several days, and this you pay me back? With a totally opaque, incredibly dirty-looking, dark brown body? Luckily the head is magnificent: it’s large, has a light brown colour and is very long-lived. Lots of lacings are left on the glass, and the head never gets smaller than a .5 cm layer. The aroma isn’t very strong, and it’s a bit dirty and homebrew-ish. Lightly roasted notes, mild coffee, yeast and hints of smoke and ash. There are also some pleasant hoppy notes in the back. The taste is light sweet, there is a very light sourness present and the finish is moderate bitter. The bitterness has a certain metallic touch that I don’t find that pleasant. Moderate flavours of ash, coffee, hoppy hints and alcohol(!). Quite dry, moderate carbonation. Not too bad, but too dirty. If I want a not-ready-for-sale homebrew I’m not paying for it.
[50 cl bottle, batch 16, enjoyed 2 months after bottling, from Meny Telemarksporten, Porsgrunn]
