A clean distinctive rich golden ale with an initial sweetness smoothly spiced with a crisp bitter finish leading to an old fashioned zesty linger.

Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear pale amber colour with a foamy white head. Aroma of caramel, treacle, some apple, slight red berries and subtle spicy hops. Taste is similar of caramel, treacle, syrup, some apple, slight red berries and spicy hops. Light bodied and a syrupy texture. A sweet, treacle and spicy hop bitterness in the finish. Really sweet and sickly, not drinkable and a bit syrupy for a 4.4% bitter.

BlackHaddock (5756) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 26, 2016
Cask pint in The Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury on 25th Feb 2016. Red hue to the amber body, on top a creamy head that left some heavy lacing. Malty front with a twig and nut flavour within the semi-sweet caramel base taste. Decent, did not find any citrus notes!

Cask, 1/2 pint, hand-pulled, Crystal Palace, Glasgow (16 Jan 2016), floral, resinous aroma, amber with a thin, creamy head and excellent lacing, grain, resin flavour, creamy, very sweet, becomes increasingly bitter on warming.

Hand pulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence (JDW ) Hatch End. Clear gold with a lively white head. Smells and tastes as if it has some Belgium yeast incorporated into the recipe. Too sweet and under hopped for my liking but the interesting yeast profile saves it.

Cask at The Water House (JDW), Durham, £1.99/pint. Pours golden amber with a thin, off-white head. There’s grass, pear and syrup in an unusual and largely sweet nose. The taste is extremely sweey with intensely sugary syrup and even custard flavours. I don’t usually like beers this sweet but this was okay.

Cask conditioned at The Rising Sun, Wootton, Hampshire. Gold to amber with white head. Quite a dry, malty beer, cereal, toasty notes with a leafy, earthy hop note. It’s okay.
