drock14 (5), Illinois, USA does not count May 20, 2008 Bottle. Scent of maltiness and chocolate, with a hint of smoke. Lighter bodied porter, flavors of coffee and malty sweetness with a relatively clean finish. Lighter than I would have liked, but it is serviceable. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA May 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is semi-sweet chocolate and a hint of bitter coffee. Body is a bit thin. Flavor is more smoked than the aroma with a bit of coffee. Not bad. gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA May 8, 2008 Pours a near opaque black with an off-white head that dissipates quickly. Not a very complex aroma mostly getting plum, black cherry and a hint of dry roasted grain. ... wait it’s warming up... caramel, raisin, mmmm I could go on. Ok so it smells great. Tastes fantastic too. Not heavy on the mouthfeel and there’s a lively carbonation that excites the palate. At 5ABV this is a great session beer. Oops! So good I forgot to rate it... HEE HEE Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2008 Serviceable porter. I find it hard to understand why this is listed as retired as its available and their standard porter. Pours a handsome black with lots of white soapy head. Porter coffee aroma. Medium or less mouthfeel,e asy drinkability, with licorice and coffee grounds and nuttiness in there. Significant roast.

Tasted like a porter should, a bit sweet with lots of roastedness. A bit thin of the palate. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 14, 2008 Bottle at Pizzeria Paradiso. Nice malty nose, with chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Oaky vanilla character, coconut. Sweet and roasty, nutty with mild tang. Light hop note. Dark brown-black clear with thin lght tan head. Medium watery body with light to meium carbonation. Starts malty with a coffee-sour tang. Rich, nutty, with light oak and vanilla. Plums and caramel. Mild bitter finish, with light sour tang, like smoke. Fairly mild bitter nutty finish, with chalky after. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Apr 10, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark brown with tan ring. Mild watered down iced mocha aroma. Medium chocolate raisin sweet fruitiness and very light finishing bitterness with ligering fruity sweetness. Light body and low carbo. Very light and a little watery. If this is "full-bodied" then Miller Lite is an Imperial Pilsner. Anyhow, nice flavor. Probably a pretty authentic historic example.
